clutch? uprated or not?

after a few weeks driving about not sure whether my new clutch cable is going to go or not i've decided to replace the clutch.

the pedal has started to feel a bit harder ever since the cable broke the first time and my mechanic says it feels like a punto clutch he just changed, heavy! but after he changed it he said the new one was very light! so i think this is why my cables are snapping (i'm now on my third!)

anyone out there got any idea how much a clutch kit is for the cinq? or has anyone fitted an uprated one as i'm still considering a low compression turbo in the near future? if you have, how much and where you get it?;)

My 1108 turbo ran the original clutch right up to 64k miles on the clock with no slipping or overheating bother. Found the pivots needed freeing off and the release springs were worn as Julio Scorchio found on his mind, but that's more an age / wear and tear thing.

The clutch on the cinq is the same as the Punto 75, so should in theory be ok for 100bhp. I've put a Fiat clutch in mine (£45 exchange from dealers) and it doesn't slip with the 1242 turbo.

Pete.

I would advise replacing with a Punto 75 clutch too.

I agree. When we did the clutch on Julio we were looking for an uprated unit, but they were not exactly thick on the ground. Eventually we bit the bullet and settled for a std replacement Sporting clutch from Partco, (about £58 for all three bits) which was listed as being the same as a Punto75, and took a chance that it would handle the extra power without any problems.

Up to now, it has proved to be perfectly adequate, no slipping or anything, despite giving it a good test or two. Only time will tell eventually, but I'm happy with the result so far. Just remember to centre the new release bearing properly when you fit it.

I had no problem obtaining and uprated clutch. In fact there were several different ones available. I decided against the paddle clutch as being to harsh.

Ah to have the knowledge of one who really knows the intricacies of the Cinqy clutch.

So would I be right in thinking your optimum setup would be to use:

MC10180PS Clutch Plate
SF180 Clutch cover (assuming bolt centres are compatible with Cinq and a Std release bearing
OR
would you suggest using the:
MC10180 FIAT-CINQUECENTO SPORTING Assembly complete (or is it the
MC10183 with the 23mm mainshaft spigot?)

Without having a look at the gearbox input shaft (not really easy) I'm not sure on the number of splines. (But I could tell you later after a look at my spare gearbox)

The plot thickens

To be brutely honest I can't remember, other than I went for a sprung one and a cover.

The lovely clutch is attached to the engine, which is crated up on the workshop floor awaiting fitting.

It is a slow project.

Cheers
