was given a k reg cinq a little while ago as a present was running ok until 3 days ago, ive got two problems, 1 it seems to like stalling for no reason, does it when im slowing down, or idling but more so when cold when this happens i get the engine warning light and the spray light come on, and 2 this morning my brakes lights seem to have decided to pack up spontaniously, had to walk to work :( so was wondering if you could tell me how much this is likely to cost me? this is not good as mot is due next month!!!! lol

For the brakelights, check the fuses first.

For the stalling, get a pot of vaseline, remove one at a time each end of the earths in the engine comparment, scratch them up clean, cover in vaseline and re-attach. Do the same for the battery terminals.

No guarantee, but will only take 30 mins and decent earths is a good place to start.

How do I do this on my car as exactly the same is happening? 00 Sei sx. I checked the crank sensor and it looks in fine condition. Where exactly would i find the earths?

i thinks what fingers means all the earth wire i.e all the wires in the engine compartment that is connected to the car body is throughly cleaned (with sandpaper or small wire brush) then reconnected to the car body make sure that is clean as well, i.e no rust then cover with vaseline to prevent damp and corrosion.

fixed the brake lights now ty :)

did what you suggested, stalls less freqently now but its still doing it (if i leave it idling for about 5 mins, sounds fine right up till it stalls), is there anything else i should look at?

Idle control valve / idle stepper motor?

They can get clogged and prevent the engine from getting enough air at low revs.

Not a hard job to stip it out. Or try car cleaner down the throttle body when it's running.

yea the ecu lights on, and mostly cold tends to wear off when its warm

My old Cinq does this - spray lights always on now. When i start it i hold the throttle at about 2000RPM (sometimes misfires while doing this) then it seems to run ok

I've tried all sorts to fix it but if I reckon getting an electronic diagnostic for about £50 will get you to the root of the problem quicker than a DIY process of elimination. Let me know if you suss it!

cinq117 and fingers99 God Bless both of you.

Other owners Take Note!

I have had a beautiful little Siecento Sport for the past few months the problem was intermittent cutting out and fuel injection light comming on.

Cars been with mechanic and all sorts.

Main dealer doesn't like to take in intermittent faults.

I despaired and posted on this forum some time ago.

Just about to get rid of car and happened to spot your advices today

Simply tightened a loose earth connection on chassis to engine block heavy cable today. Now! its like a new car all fuel injection problems gone. Tested in every way tonight and it's great!

Will clean and re-make connections this weekend for sure..
vaseline the works. My mechanic friends will appreciate the info.

One again thank you for taking the time to assist others in distress
I hope they may benefit as I did from your sound advice..

Had a quick snoop around and y'all know i'm a noob so.. Are these the earth plugs? I only pulled one out and it's pretty shiny!

Nope, thats a high tension lead that goes to a spark plug.

You are looking for the big black lead bolted to the top of the gear selector mechanism on top of the gearbox, that goes to a bolt behind the headlamp. There is a similar bolt behind the driver side lamp, and a couple at the back by the lights. The gearbox one is the possible main culprit.

No. Look at the picture and there is a 13mm headed bolt with a big black cable attached, its under the cable gojng left to right.

Thats it.

The one on the other side is in the same place, if you see what I mean.

Its the other side thats more problematical, and follow the other side one to the box.

ive discovered something whilst messing around under the bonnet, theres a cable that runs directly from a box near the ecu to the middle of the engine, (about in line with the headlights) i didnt notice this before because my dad checked the car out when i was given it but it seems this wire was damaged and someone tried to bodge it back together with tape. upon closer inspection i noticed it was barely hanging on, went inside to get a drink my dad was unaware of this. he went to start the engine up, it fired first time. he turned it off and went inside to get me. we start the car again and it wounld'nt start, went to check the wire and it had fallen out!! it wont start at all now, could this be the cause of my stalling? and how do i replace it?

Not a wire, a vacuum pipe for the map sensor. Needs to be on the brass bit sticking out from the end of the rubber tube on the side of the TB.

Undo the rusty hose clip.

Take off the the little bit of rubber tube.

Chuck it away.

Get new clip.

Attach it to the hose.

Fit the hose.

That will sort a lot of your problems.

Your car is getting air from where it shouldn't, and the map sensor is not working.

Cheers
