when fitting the timing belt where is the mark on the engine block for the bottom pully?
Can't see that it matters. If you want to be fussy, you can get cylinder 1 at tdc on compression.
If you've got it running right and to 7K then you must have got lucky and got it right first time.

Did you change the tensioner as well?
Remove the alternator belt and run the car without to check whether the noise is still there or not. That will either rule in or rule out the alternator belt or bearings.
The tension on the cambelt should be loose enough to turn the belt through 90 degrees on the longest side.
Too tight is as bad as too loose, in this application.
