I've got 2002 plate seicento sporting Michael Schumacher Lt edition - noticed strong smell of fuel last week - took it into local garage - they advised fuel tank has corroded - have read all the issues on here about this - surely it shouldn have gone that quick ?

Probably not. Pester Fiat to see if you can get one done under the recall.

You would be suprised, newer seis than yours have had their tanks corrode

mines is an 02 plate and when i bought it in may 2006 i noticed the same it was the petrol leaking and they were doing a recall but mine wasnt one of the ones that they were recalling but they done mine under the "recall" anyway

hopefully if i give em enough stick they may do it.....failing that i've seen new tank on ebay for £47 - any ideas on how much a garage will charge to fit ?

Also it says tank is standard for years 2001-2003 models - does this include the Schumacher Edition ? As i've found to my cost - exhaust especially - everything on this model costs double !!

Yes. the schumacher is only cosmetically different to other seis and not mechanically aside from maybe ABS

has anyone got a copy of the recent letters sent out ref recall of seicento's for fuel tank leaks ?

The recall has been going for 8/9 years, so not a recent thing Hopefully this is helpful though, the last one obviously

There is a recent thread on here re my fuel tank on a 99 sei.

In a nutshell contacted Fiat customer relations via Fiat web site. I told them that petrol was leaking onto the exhaust from the fuel tank and that the car was dangerous. Fiat organised replacement tank and the work was done at Stoneacre Doncaster all free of charge.

Brilliant for a car that is 9 years old.

wey hey....took my seicento into fiat garage in Birmingham. They sent off report to Fiat - replacement tank fitted free of charge - RESULT !!:worship:
