Hi Everyone, I've just joined and this is my first post.
I have a 95 Cinquecento SX and it has just developed a problem with the headlights. I have no dipped beam. Lighting switch in position 1 gives dimmed headlights and sidelights. In position 2 there is just sidelights, no dipped beam but when the high beam switch is operated (whilst the lighting switch is in position 2) I do get full beam. I've checked the fuses and the relays seem to be working. I've tried to bypass the dim dip resistor but that makes no difference. I've searched the forum and there are several previous threads with similar problems but I can't find one that shows how the problem was solved. Can anyone help please?

I haven't checked the voltage. I do have a multimeter but I'm not sure where to connect it on the headlight. Can you advise me please?

The headlamp bulb has three connectors. Put the negative of your multimeter to the battery negative, then with the dipped beam on put the positive on each of the three connectors one at a time. You should get a zero reading from two of them, the earth and the full beam, and you should get 12v at the other one. If you are not getting 12v then your dim dip relay is not right. If you are getting 12v then its a possible earth problem, or bulb problem.

Cheers

Just thought I would update where I'm at with this. Checked the voltage and there was none so have ordered a dim dip relay from the local dealer. Will have to wait a few days for it. Hope it does the trick. Will update when I get it.

I'm having this same problem.

With ignition off:
No lights come on at all- except if you push the button on the ignition barrel and turn the key back, activating the sidelights.
I believe this is correct.

With ignition on:
Light switch in position 0 - No lights, as expected.
Light switch in position 1 - Sidelights on, main bulb is very dim.
Light switch in position 2 - Sidelights on, no main bulb at all.
Full beam works, wether that be me pulling the stalk temporarily or moving it downward as you would for prolonged full beam.

Effectively everything is working as I'd expect except no dipped beam on both headlights.
So at night I'm having to mildly blind folk.

I have checked:
  • Fuses are all fine
  • The light switch in the dashboard itself
  • The relay (which is the black one on the left of the fusebox shown above the 7.5 fuse). It clicks when you go between position 1 and 2, and the local factors tested it and confirmed it seems fine
  • As per rallycinq's advise above, I took a multimeter to one of the headlight connectors and none of the 3 connectors are getting 12V when the light switch is in position 2.
Assuming I've identified the correct relay... what next?

For future readers:

It turned out that the fault lay within the indicator/light stalks. Fitting a spare set fixed it.

Also it’s not just the black relay on the left of the picture, but the bottom leftmost grey relay is involved. Regardless, all my relays where fine.
