Hi,
Have had a slight blow on the Seicento (2003 model) exhaust for a while, which I finally got around to having it looked at. Took car into a local branch of a nationwide exhaust replacement establishment yesterday, who after getting car up on the ramp invited me to have a look. The exhaust system is apparently the original which is a one piece from the slip on manifold connection (as opposed to two pieces) and has rotted through just to the rear of the first silencer? (bulbous mesh looking thingy). As it was Sunday matey couldn't give me a price for a two piece (middle and a back section) replacement, I'll ring him for that this morning. What I would like to ask is, are the Sporting systems different to a non-sporting model, maybe any recommendations on places to have it replaced? or even other options on aftermarket replacement systems open to me? ...Dave (SouthEast)

Yes they are different in the sense that the version you have is an 1108cc MPI model, and some non-sporting models are 899cc and SPI, SPI models have the cat converter located in a different place IIRC. There were also SPI sportings so you may see a difference when putting your model against an older sporting

Aftermarket...what is your budget? custom or off the shelf?

I had wondered about the SPI/MPI versions, so that has answered that one for me, thanks.

If by custom you mean a tail pipe that small animals could climb into, then I am probably thinking off the shelf.
Matey at the exhaust place was having problems getting through to his suppliers for the price, to be fair it was christmas eve and most people would rather not be working. So I will pursue it after christmas.
A lot of the reviews and posts I have read seem to have the same theme that anything sporting is either not readily available or rather more expensive than the non-sporting models. Whether this was true only of the earlier models and is not the case with newer models I don't know. Synical as I am I'll suspect the worst when I do eventually get a price from matey. It would be nice to be in the position of having an alternative or better option in case I need one..Dave

Well not necessarily thinking like that unless you want that, a custom job IMO is where you would visit a specialist exhaust fitter for this type of work and tell them the specification you like i.e loud lower in rev range, fairly quiet on motorway etc etc and then they make the exhaust to produce that sort of specification you ask for in front of you, be it with a huge chasm for an exit or a small one.

Custom is the more expensive job but you do get something different than everyone else.

Off the shelf, see you have had a read up there are plenty about, supersprint seems to be the one everyone seems to go for and is the closest aftermarket one to a standard item

Having had the price back from matey (£185) I have been surfing and looking at both custom and off the shelf exhaust prices. One thing I am not sure about and would welcome clarification on is the cat. Is it somewhere in the manifold area (up behind the heat sink) or is it what looks like the front one of the two silencers?..Dave

All MPI Seis are identical apart from the chrome bit on the tail pipe. FIAT wouldn't sell me the flexi section seperate from the cat, wanted £150 or so for the two. Catman did me the flexi for £50.

It's not easy to fit -- you'll need an angle grinder to break one of the welds and ideally oxy gear, so I'd advise buying the part and getting a decent back street garage to fit it.

Now it is making sense, after laying under the car I see that the cat is in fact built into the manifold, so that is one less expense to worry about. I also stand corrected on the fact that the system is three boxes including the flexi looking front box. Also matey (as he has now been named) if I decide to will fit a aftermarket system supplied by me providing it is a relatively straightforward replacement job....Looking positive...Thanks chaps..Dave

The complete SPI system will fit. On that one, the cat is after the manifold, which makes everything easier. AFAIK, no one makes an aftermarket MPI one, but I could well be wrong.

foxyemz dad made one up for the 1400 SEI,which seems to work well, with a couple of cans, a length of exhaust tube and a MIG welder. The thread is here.

Thats a shame, I have just seen the F0854126 on http://www.tuning.co.uk/fiatshop/index.html?target=dept_20.html&lang=en-gb
Lets see what their response is to my question about it being the right replacement for my car.
I have also had a price for a stainless steel custom job (made and fitted while u wait with a choice of tailpipes as well)

bit of a trek but worth consideration (although, being slightly more informed now (thanks forum), I would double check their perception of my cats position before leaving home).Dave
