im on my second cinq sporting now and, is it just me, or are these cars much faster than contempary road tests suggested....i can remember them being tested about 88-93mph or so???....yet this one goes up to an indicated 105mph on any straight and will hold 100mph up hill and down dale....my last sporting was a low miles minter, 14k and one owner, and it was even faster....it would hit 110mph with a good run up, and i actually had a picture of the speedo taken by a mate with my phone as we knew no one would believe us indicatin 114mph going downhill with a following huricane!!!..(on a private road...obviously..)...

And don't forget that magazine road tests are carried out with two people in the car and half a tank of fuel adding extra weight. Plus the cars are very new so the engines haven't loosened up fully.

Downhill my 999cc Uno indicated 110mph once. Doesn't mean it was a real 110mph, only an optimistic Fiat 110mph (probably about 95mph in reality)!

Had an indicated 110 out of my sei, with no bother or stuggling on the engine's part.
Didn't get chance to check my sat nav (was too busy concentrating on the road), but at a speedo indicated 95, my sat nav reports an actual speed of 89mph, so it's air to say that top end will be about 100 - 105 ish.
Bear in mind that mine isn't quite standard either - aftermarket straight through to the cat exhaust, rally filter, magnecor leads, bosch super 4's....etc
With a standard engine this might be a little less (although I would imagine the difference to be negligible.

Also worth noting that this was done with a passenger, a full fuel tank, and a 20kg sub in the car.... I suspect it may be a wee bit quicker if the load was lightened?

My old 899 cinq would see 90, and that was modified to a similar degree to my sei - but the engine just didn't have anything left to give at that kind of speed, and sounded quite stressed.

...I miss Bertie

I get an indicated 100mph in 4th. never tried in 5th....i like my licence

 Bet your engine sounds...erm... interesting in 4th at that speed - mine complains once you go past 70 in 4th!

I managed just over 70mph once and with larger wheels and tyres that should have meant a 6% under read it was still reading 2 mph over the indicated GPS speed.

so if they were all the same that is a 7-8% over-read at least

Yeah, I worked a rough guess of 6% over reading - based on a 3mph over read at 30 scaled to a 6-7mph over read at 100mph.

Mine read 100-105 ish but came up 93 on laser, from the we have nothing better to do but catch real criminal speeding motorists driving on roads with speed limits from the sixties designed for morris minors and not even considering the fact of vehicle advancement over the last 40 years with regard to handling/brakes/tyres decreased stopping distances etc, By the sooooooooo out of date Law enforcement gency.

To some extent I agree - but with that said there are a lot of motorway stretches out there where even 70mph is adventurous, and can you imagine just how confusing it would be if the speed limits were different all over the place?

I got pulled over months ago on the way back home after dropping some alloys off for an FF member.
The officer who flashed me over was actually very nice, and quite level headed - he had actually pulled me over for doing a touch over 70 in the outside lane...
His gripe was in fact that I was going too slowly for travelling in that lane, and in his own words I was "likely to cause, or be involved in an accident with one of the careless pricks that bomb along at 110 in their beemers and mercs".

Traffic cops generaly live in the real world but mobile speed camera's don't.
Only 5% of accidents are speed related and the rest are caused by poeple who should not be on a back street , let alone a motorway.
In Germany they respect the rule of keeping right, English left, but here,,, Fk off your speeding so i'll overtake this truck doing 56 at 70ish for 10 min and carry on in the middle lane cos i can see another truck 2 miles away as I can't judge speed and distance and fk you any way cos your speeding.

Most rear enders on motorways are caused by poeple over braking because they can't drive.

Nice Seicento by the way...:) Ronnie.

My brother worked in traffic for quite a long time and he always said would never pull anyone for speeding on the motorway unless they were doing 90mph or over or they were being a complete and utter dicks (ie obviously incapable or blindly unaware of there suroundings)

I did a spell as a special and was amazed just how much everyone looks like a dick when you are on the other side of the fence

in a Cento 70mph is more than fast enough, they come into there own on the twisty stuff where a well sorted one can surprise some very pricey cars

Typically I stay in the middle lane - unless there is a clear run on the left, but mainly because my avg speed is about 80.
With that in mind I cant abide speeders, and I would only ever go beyond that kind of speed on a straight, level empty stretch of rd - where I would not be a danger to anyone else.

A lot of people I know tend to plant the break on motorways - scares the **** outta me.
Thankfully my dad used to drive an ambulance for a living, so he's a pretty skilled driver, and I got a lot of pointers off him about engine breaking, feathering the break and stuff like that.
I can imagine that there are a lot of people who think their abs will sort them out if they get in trouble with a slide... quite glad mine doesn't have abs to be fair.

It's amazing just how many people are totally oblivious to the fact that there are other cars on the rd - I think a lot of drivers that are either inexperienced with regard to motorways, or people who have gotten in to bad habits, are mainly at fault here.
Its almost as if they get tunnel vision, and forget that they have mirrors...

All things aside though, I have had this out with my boss many a time.
He drives a 2.3ltr honda prelude - quite a quick car.
He's always banging on about the 0-60 time and the top end on her.
If we get realistic about this - how many times do you really get to do a 0-60 in real life? it's the 0-30/40 that counts, and with that in mind there's not a lot of cars that can beat down a sorted cento - even my 899 was quick off the mark in that sense.

Regardless of accuracy of speedo etc, i wouldnt do high speeds in a stnd cinq. They are quite unstable at high speed. Uprated suspension they are slightly better, but they should be exploiting the 0-80/90mph zone and going for acceleration.
