Exclamation Rear Suspension Arm Bush

When I replace the suspension arm bushes is there any thing else that should be replaced while I have it stripped down ? (tab washers, bolts etc)
I will be replacing the NS (exhaust side ) I have looked but can't find a guide on the forum but I presume it's not to difficult and I have the use of a press to remove and fit the new bushes.
Cheers.

You'll want to do the sides in pairs. Else you could have some fun round corners.

Yup, and you might need more than a press to get the retaining tube out. There is plenty of info on the forum regarding this operation.

Cheers

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Bush

The press I can use is a 25 tonne press ! surely more than man enough for the job.Why will replacing only one side cause problems ? I could understand replacing shocks in pairs but not bushes on the arms.

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Bush

If you change only one side the car will effectively have different damping rates to small imperfections in the road but also the rear arms will move in different ways causing chassis instability.

I drove god knows how many miles on a rear bush that was so gone you could literally move the rear arm about 1cm around the mounts but in the car you couldn't hear or feel a difference in the way the car/rear arm moved, this produced mild oversteer on right hand corners. With the powerflex bushes at the rear you could actually feel the difference in the rear at about 10 to 15mph so I hate to think how the car would have reacted to that

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Bush

You should replace all ny-lock nuts. Be prepared to get some new brake pipes if yours are corroded and dislike being fiddled with.

I done one side one week, and the other the next. Nothing too bad, but you could feel the difference in corners, depending which way you were going round - good one way, bad the other.

You can have the biggest press in the world, doesn't mean you'll be able to get the shells of the bushes out. There's hardly any lip on them.

I found that a small hydraulic jack would push the insides of the bush out, then a hacksaw would cut the bush shell. Once it was 90% cut a a chisel would follow the cut through and pop it out.

New split pins for the handbrake as well.

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Bush

It's not so much pressure it's application of the said pressure. It took me about 10 min of careful and slow sawing to get a 3mm slither out of the outer shell at which point I could just push the shell out with a drift.
