Right I had to drive to Glasgow and back in one day in my sporting cinq. 970miles

Didn't hang about and through the lakes on M6 I was flat out racing a Aprillia 125! No mercy.

Checked my water when back and the levels dropped to min from max. Detected vapour in my exhaust so the H.G's obv let go.

Car's done 44k miles so may as well do pump as well as belt/tensioner. Phoned Fiat's and told there's 2 pumps. one's £28 and ones £50. They need chassis number. (I'm putting a genuine pump in as i intend to keep the car for miles to come and some dude on here had a pattern pump leak after 5k miles. Sod that!..)

Does anyone know what a late car '98 airbag Cinq pump would be. Why is one twice the price? Surely the blocks are the same?

With my luck I'll need a £50 job!!

The impellar on the upgrade pump is made of plastic to cut out the deteriation that happened to aly ones. 50 quid sounds a bit steep.

OK. So I'm assuming the plastic one is the cheaper? I'll report tomorrow when I ring..

With regards to my HG, I have no external leaks. No leaking rad. I suppose until I get the timing cover off I cant check pump but I can see the vapour in the exhaust.

It must be the HG. It's not oveheating. It probably will if I continue to use the car. I can't see how 1, an airlock would just appear. 2,Where's the water gone?

I suspect the gaskets gone tween waterway and cylinder pot. Prob a minor weep at the mo'. If it gets hot I'll need a skim.

I know ralycinq you say a HG blowing is caused by something. Like stuck stat or split hose. Welll in my case driving it at 6.2 grand for 20miles done the dirty deed.

There is so much pressure in a cylinder that a minor weep would be a bloody big hole by the time you have done 970 miles, or even 20 miles at 6200rpm.

It might have got a wee bit warm and the pressure cap has let some out.

You get water in all exhausts, until completely hot, particularly at this time of year.

I am not saying its not the HG, but I've seen some go in my time and losing a pint of water over 970 miles is, to use the venacular 'hee haw' water loss.

Cheers

OK. I'll have an inspection at the weekend at report my findings...

I'm keeping my car and for the sake of a few quid I'll go for genuine Fiat on the pump. HG kit is only 8 quid more than pattern/aftermarket so that's a no brainer with postage taken into account which i wont need..

I'm really hoping I need a £28 pump and not a £50.

Sods law says...

I'll let you all know shortly..

Right so the divs at Fiat got busy and changed the tooth pitch at some point.

I've a genny cambelt and tensioner kit. From Evilbay. I don't know what pitch it is though. Thought all was the same..

What a bunch of fookin arse.

happy days.

seems my car is late so i needed a plastic impeller pump.

i paid £61 for a genuine fiat pump,hg kit and tube of silicone gunge.

and they had the whole lot on the shelf. got 10% off cause i'm a nice lad!!

job's to be done on sat. just antiffreeze to get. and a timing belt kit if the one I bought off fleabay is of the wrong pitch...

It's not overheated so I'll put it back.

I've obv bought an early belt kit. The pitch doesnt fit my late pump/car. But I've been told the tensioners are different.

Are they? Surely they have to simply roll over a belt.

What's going on?!! I;m getting confused.

The only difference is in the crank and cam pulley.
If the belt is from a factors, then they won't know s**t.
I gave up and went to fiat to be on the safe side.
If yours is mpi ,then it's got more teeth.
The bearing is the same for all fire engines.
I bet it fits... Fords, Opels, Skodas etc...

Noted, the car was one owner and serviced every 3000miles at fiats.

With luck my pumps leaking and the head can stay where it is. It's running perfect save using water...

Wish me luck.
