I am an owner of a 98 Sei Sporting (1242), with 42k on the clock.

When the car is "cold" it seems to have a fair bit of trouble getting into first and second gear. Even when stationary i sometimes have to slightly rev the car in neutral and then select first. Also when downshifting it takes some brute force to get these gears. It has been suggested that a change in transmission juice may fix it, but any other suggestions?

Aye, I'd try fully synthetic gearbox oil, such as Castrol Driveline. Also, check the clutch adjustment is right. Shifts aren't usually perfect on these when cold, mind.

How does one change/top up the gearbox oil? - I think my sei needs this as its now getting on 4 years old and have no paperwork to suggest a change is needed.

There's a drain plug underneath and a fill plug on the front, behind the charcoal canister - need big allen keys to undo. Cinq manual says 2.6 litres, but I reckon it's a misprint - more like 1.6l. Usually 5-6 yrs / 60K miles recommended interval.
