Just in case anyone thought it was a good idea to rebuild their own rear calipers.....don't :D

Its a right ball ache, and takes ages.

I got to the very last stage of refitting the pistons, spent 4 hours today trying, and now they are in the hands of bigg red.

I fully rebuild the one, couldn't do the second, so stripped the built one back down to compare and couldn't do either then :bang:

I was going to do a guide but needless to say I won't now :p

when I get them back I can finally do the rear conversion....tomorrow (2 days off to do the brake conversion :( ) I will just fix up loads of little faults ;)

I WILL be rebuilding the fronts completely, and a doing a guide.....done several fronts in the past, and no where near as hard as the rears.

Just thought I'd let everyone know I failed

@Custard - lmfao :D

I do have nimble fingers and I think the fronts will be easy. However, maybe i didn't have the correct technique or approach for the rears.

RC, Your correct that winding them back was the issue. It not like i couldn't wind them back, thats easy, just like getting them out, However inside the caliper is a spring loaded threaded shaft held in by the circlip. This doesn't turn.

inside the piston itself is a plastic bored threaded piece that goes into the shaft. This also contains 4 washers, a seal, a ball bearing roller, and will actually turn around with a small resistance.

When winding back, the resistance of the new seals was greater, and so instead of the thing winding onto the shaft, the internal of the piston just span and so it went no where.

After trying for hours and cursing, phoning up Bigg Red for advice (very friendly) I decided to call it quits.

I still managed 99% of it though :D

Will have to wait until Tuesday before I get tho find out the cost for it :(

You had a go which has to be applauded, but I did say all those months ago that it was best left to a pro as we looked at the rear's and those funny circlips and thought, its going to take way to long and lots of effort why bother when Big Redd will turn it around in 48hours which they did for two sets for me at a great price and bonus of coming back all stripped and a perfect finish on which to paint your own colour if you specified base black like we did.

This time I made it even easier and bought a serviceable set of alloy callipers off a Marea for cheap.

Good luck with rear conversion.

yay, got the calipers back on Friday.....only cost me £15 to have them put back together properly, and didn't need to do any posting (y)

Big shout out the Bigg Red, they are a great company and I'd recommend them to anyone.

Started to strip the arms off and brakes down tonight, ready for the conversion (y)

I can vouch for BiggRed being really good - one of their employees went out of her way on 2 different occasions to save me about £40 in postage :)
