Failed My Mot :( :( :(

Just had my MOT this morning and guess what.......IT FAILED!!!!!

It failed on the following :

1.headlights not being positioned correctly
2.window washer providing insufficient washer liquid
3.emissions
4.exhuast system has a major leak of gases
5. rear brakes recording little or no effort
6.rear parking brake recording little or no effort
7.offside reg plate lamp not working
8.both from suspension arm has excessive play in the ball joints
9. 2 holes in the body work near rear and front body mountings

and the guy quoted me £300 to fix the lot!!!!!

Im like ur joking!!!

I managed to get the parts:

arms £66 (brand new)
reg bulb 41p
spark plugs £7.09

total for parts = £ 73.50

Labour for doing the work :
fitting the new arms = £45 per side £90
welding of the 2 holes = £80
total = £170

Grand total!!!! = £ 243.50

IM right gutted!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Failed My Mot :( :( :(

hardly a death trap, excessive wear in the front ball joints means they rattle a bit - not likely to fail (yet)

new arms only cost around £20 each, so no biggy - and i wouldn't pay someone to fit them, its only a few bolts.

rear brakes, just service them. free up the linkages, tap the shoe adjusters in the drum and tighten the handbrake cable, bet they'll be fine.

emissions - bung some decent fuel in, some redex and then take the car out for a good thrash. oh and clean/replace your air filter too. (just looking at how to make my car a bit greener come emissions times, i shall be retarding the ignition timing another 10degrees or so.. that'll do it!)

Or winch the fuel pressure down to weaken it up, it'll be horrid to drive to the test station but you stand a better chance of it passing

Re: Failed My Mot :( :( :(

Arc yesterday i had a go at taking the arms off right, the bolts that hold the roll bar on the arm just snapped clean off lol i wont be able to do it myself there are charging me a maxium of £45 per side lol but while im there im going to get them to tighten the exhaust system up and take off the rear brakes and put them back on because when the brackets come for the rear disc conversion i dont want any snapped bolts or anything!!!

ah, but we're talking pressing a few buttons on the laptop vs adjusting a nut on the regulator!

So you can drive to the MOT station, adjust as neccessary, then re adjust before driving home. Providing you remember your laptop.

Cheers

Re: Failed My Mot :( :( :(

Im right F'd off now the garage that i had to take my car too for the arms to be fitted have charged me £183.30 in labour!!!!! but they said it was a right job as the nuts had sezied etc.. and i got them to make sure the rear conversion would go smoothly as poss by making sure the nuts at the back end were ok...

Oh yeah do you think this was the culprit for my emissoin failure??? a cracked spark plug??
