Hi there guys just my luck a twig or somthing metal got wedged in my fan on the way home i smelt som burning alittle and when i got home i checked, the fan wont come on at all! ive tried the paper clip method and checked the fuses and there all fine!!! Whats up with the beast????

You know the paper clip method is it put into the that plug that you pull out on the right had side of the rad?????

just been reading a few posts and there is apparently some fuses behind the battery??????? ive checked the ones in the fuse box under the stearing wheel and they seem fine.

Your bin says Cinq so I presume thats what you have. In that case no fuse behind battery, its in the fuse box. Yep take the plug off the side of the rad and short out with a paper clip. Do this with the ignition off, then switch it on and check the paperclip, by vision. Do not be tempted to touch the paperclip, unless you fancy being branded.

Cheers

ive checked it and it looks like fine, its a blue fuse with a little fan logo above it, could ever thing be ok? and the fan just nackered? I can spin it free hand fine, but ive been looking at my rad and its in an ok condition no leaks, a little rust but it was working fine before the problem arised. do you think there might be air in the system??? cuz i did use rad clean about 3 or days ago, but the fan has been working right since then.

dude i dont even know what it means let alone does lol its it that screw driver with the light in it? thats used???

See, you do know what it is, spot on.

You need one with a length of wire coming out the handle end with a croc clip on it. The end with the criooc clip goes to a good earth on the body, then you use the pointy end to touch both the contacts on the fuse.

You can also use it at the fan switch to make sure power is arriving there.

do you do that when the engine is on? ive only got the one without the croc clip will that be ok???? and u stick the end on the screw driver in each of the plugs ports to see if there is power???

is this a common fault? would this cause the fan not too work? i saw alittle bit of smoke coming from the back of the fan when i disloged that metal, do u think it will be ok?

No, you need a twelve volt one. I think the one you have is a 240V mains one.

I suspect that the wiring has fried on one side or the other. Your going to have to take a logical approach and go through each possible failure point one at a time until you find the power.

ok, give me a list of the things im going to need to check and what is the worst case possible?

Get a multimeter...about £5 for a cheapie at our local maplins.

One side of the fan connector will be earth (check from connector to chassis using continuity or resistance), other will be 12v..high or open resistance. Run a wire from the battery to the non earth side of the fan connector....does it spin?

Another idea is to run the multimeter on resistance mode, between the two pins on the sender..NTC I think, so as the rad heats up, resistance will drop. (or poss the other way....make sure it does one or other).

Loads and loads of checks to do to fault find properly, and hard to do on the internet.

good luck :)
