After what i though was a peach of a car for £500 has now turned out to be a right lemon..

its a p reg cinquecento sporting

first off the fuel problem, (now sorted)

ive notced a few panels are slightly different colours

and now the gearbox is going funny

i can select 1st or 2nd very well, and reverse seems to be non-exsistant at times. quite embarressing when your sat at the lights not moving :/. my uncle seems to think its the clutch cable needs adjusting but i dont know

is it a common problem with cinqs that can be easily sorted or is it worth biting the bullet and taking it to the garage ?

thanks in advance

:D

Not so much a problem, more a feature of any car with a cable operated clutch.

It's very easy to do. With the bonnet open, stand in front of the car at the passenger side looking down at the gearbox. Get someone in the car to press and release the clutch until you see what's moving under the bonnet. At the end of the clutch cable there's a big nut. Simply turn that clockwise until the clutch and gearbox feel OK again. Usually 2 turns will have a noticeable effect, but you might need a little more. The proper way of doing it is set out in the Haynes, but it can be done by making an adjustment and checking the result.

Did adjusting the clutch solve the problem for you?

I have a similar problem, can only select 1st, 5th and reverse but the gearshaft wont move into position for the other gears. Just replaced the box and clutch but have exactly the same problem, im thinking it could be the selector mechanism on top of the gearbox as I just swapped that with the old one when fitting the new box.

Bit stumped to be honest.

yeh i just tightend up the clutch cable and put a locing nut on it, the clutch is abit higher now, and poblem sovled

is your biting point very close to the floor :?
