Need mine lopping out and new one welding in... how much of a pain is that? quite a bit apparently :(

Its a 2" bore... can get them on ebay for £20ish iirc, but am i right in thinking its only specialist places that can weld stainless or can regular places do it too?

Anyone had similar work done and take a guess at time taken/price etc?

Doesnt help no specialists round here and well the place i know want circa 100 to do it but need car a while, im sure i can get it done cheaper/quicker though... (although all their welds will be ground back etc etc which im not too bothered about... its under the car and in the exhaust tunnel etc etc)

I think anyone can weld stainless, but not many places actally use a stainless wire, and so the joints may rust, but no a biggie really, you'll prob have to replace the flex before the welds go ;)

I'm actually researching welding at teh moment. The local exhaust place says about 2-3 weeks before i can get it fitted. Going to tryabit further afield, else I'll have to hack one together myself!

If I do it, adn can weld ok, I'll do it for you :D

lol will see how you get on then :p

Going to have a word with a friend of a friend mot place after work today :) will see about them welding it for me too maybe :)

Need to get flexi welded then she's ready for RR setup :slayer: probably looking a maybe end of next week RR setup if i can get flexi sorted at some point :p

Then once had RR needs to get mot done (if i fit cat on now to get into mot mode i'll kill it with over-fuelling :()

Stainless can be mig or tig welded or brazed (but it's a bugger to oxy-acetalyne weld). Ideally you want to use stainless wire (cheap in small rolls) and either pure argon or an argon/Co2 mix. Easy to weld. Tig produces a much neater weld, but demands rather more skill and fewer people have the kit (it's also a lot slower).

if you wasnt in a rush for it i wouldve done it for a drink for ya alex, hope you arent missing your mortgage payments with all this money ur spending..!

something like that then? :chin:

think for 2" bore exhaust need a 55mm x 200mm... though the clamps is going to be a issue i think... (well front one clamps to decat section anyway iirc - so cant lose that one anyway) but well she grounds out alot so extra clamp not good idea if avoidable... chasing RR atm so need flexi sorted asap... place near me cant do it anytime soon... may try a powerflow place on the way to RR or something... if there is one

Yeah like that, think maybe mines had slightly longer end pieces which meant it was like a sleeve really and when the clamps were fitted, I pushed them around so the long parts were facing away from the road IYKWIM, you can trim excess stud length too.

ok found 2 powerflows about 30-35 miles away from me so return trip under £15... and i had a powerflow centre section made up for a old cinq that cost £60 iirc... so will see what they say when i find 2 mins to call...

Ok Options and pro's/cons:

Place near me: £100

pro's: near me, can have it done tomorrow, its done
cons: most expensive, would have to leave car with them, not sure i trust him, really quite pushy

Powerflow Cov: £85 + £15 petrol

Pros: bit cheaper, can go see kritip's 16v if he's in when i go :p, can sit and watch the work
Cons: difference in price made up in petrol costs, cant fit me in when i want

Powerflow aylesbury: £68 all in + £15 petrol

Pros: can fit me in week sat, i can watch it being done, wasnt as pushy as the others
Cons: not done straight away have to wait

Not sure what to go for... if i trusted this first place more i'd go with them as i need it asap as its the only thing stopping me from getting the RR done, and once this is done i can get time off work to go RR then its ready for MOT (well cat on then mot)

think cov one out of window :(

Thinking about it, may well have to trust the first place ya know :( otherwise i may well end up running out of mot before cinq is all ready for it :( which isnt a option as i need it to go to/from up north kinda thing:(
