use a long bar [something like a 4 foot length of scaffold] over a 1/2" drive socket [or bigger] and suitable T bar, undo in the normal direction, it will come undone!

| Re: Cinquecento rear hub/bearing replacement hmm ... have the car on the road, put the 30 mm socket in and a breaker bar, and just stand on it for like 10 - 20 seconds, then the hub nut will be lose, no long bar needed no nothing. Remeber just stand on it, don't bounce about, let me come losse naturally. Just recently done this , because i needed to take my rear trail arm out ![]() Ming

| Get a wriggle on! | Re: Cinquecento rear hub/bearing replacement Your local motor factors will either have them, or be able to obtain them for a good price. I got mine from Andrew Page LTD which are a large factors in the north west, I think I paid £18 ish You can get them off ebay, but when you add in the postage it might not appear as good a bargain.

| Re: Cinquecento rear hub/bearing replacement hi,this bit just caught my eye whilst searching some advice via the web "Refit new hub to stub axle, replace the large washer, I had to reuse the old nut - which upon inspection was sound, due to the new nut having too large a thread" i've read a few different places that the nut should be replaced by a new one or your wheel "WILL" fall off !!,it sounds stupid as there's no retaining device on the nut or the stub axle, does anyone know how true this is as i removed the hubs regreased and replaced them after having a rumbling from the rear and i didn't replace the nuts, now everytime i drive it i'm half expecting my wheel to overtake me and i can only find them for sale as part of the kit which i don't need the whole lot it'd be an expensive nutby the way great forum

| Get a wriggle on! | Re: Cinquecento rear hub/bearing replacement The torque that the nut is tightened to, is so huge that the chances of the nut failing in operation is slim [or, it coming loose], if the nut does fail it will probably do so when tightened, either due to a worn thread, or fracture of the nut itself. I would always recommend a new nut is used, however in my case on the above project I trust my own judgement and my own work if deciding to reuse an existing nut.

| Re: Cinquecento rear hub/bearing replacement
thanx for the prompt reply ![]() so could you share you knowledge with me?would i be right in saying if there was no sign of a fracture and the nut was done to the correct torque then it would be perfectly safe to use the old one,i've done other cars over the years and the ones i've done they've normally got a castle nut or the key in the shaft to enable you to tap the head of the nut into the key to stop it undoing,it's just i've never come across such hub nut with no way of ensuring it don't come undone thanx in advance

| Get a wriggle on! | Re: Cinquecento rear hub/bearing replacement What I am saying is, yes, I reused my existing nut, as I was happy to do so given its condition and was satisfied that it tightened up ok. In your situation, if you are not happy that you reused the nut, and think the wheel is going to come off, then stop driving the car and get a new nut, I cant say if its right or not for you - thats a decision you have to make. You should be able to buy the nut on its own from Fiat. If somebody brought a car to me, to replace a hub, then a new nut would be fitted and tightened to correct torque.
