| | Re: Removal/Refit of cam cover gasket 1108cc engine you missed something the glue in the corners were fiat put it from new see here http://www.fiatforum.com/punto-guide...eek-later.html it's very important or you end up with leaks around the corners onto cam belt and such

Thanks for that . My gasket wasnt refitted with the glue as the FAI gasket is much thicker in those areas I assume to give extra sealing pressure when fitted, engine has covered quite a few miles since with no visible reoccurance of an oil leak. Perhaps the requirement with an original Fiat part is that you have to use the glue to fill those gaps [I thought it was sealant, which I described the removal of in my guide], and also, perhaps thats why it fails too as the oil was leaking from those parts on the seal that I removed.

Also, how essential is skimming? I understand that you obviously don't want it to leak after you've changed it so it's a good precaution, but if the surface sits flat on a worktop and is relatively clean is it ok to just replace the gasket? Thanks.

I made all by this guide 2-3 weeks ago and still no leaks Found the same FAI gasket at Halfords and used no sealant. Changed also spark plugs, ignition leads and air filter and car became very quick, bi-bip ![]() Thanks for guide and good luck on the road!

Would add that for the sake of a couple of quid buy a genuine Fiat gasket, I bought 2 non genuine over the last 6 months and could not stop a slight oil weep, the genuine part has fixed the job now.
