Oil leaking problem

Im new here, and hope i can get my answers here.
I bought my cinq SX (96 N reg, 899cc) and the guy who owned it before said he couldnt get it to go over 65mph. After buying and giving it a service (oil change, spark plugs changed, air filter changed) it seemed to solve this and the car has been running extremely well. The only other thing I've had to do is change the front shock absorbers and replace a tyre.. apart from this the car was faultless.

However, it seems to be leaking a lot of engine oil now, and it leaks when its running a little, but also a lot when it is parked up and cools down. My girlfriends dad is the one with the engine know how, and says that the gasket and sump covers need replaced, and maybe possibly the crank shaft seal (possibly), but is there anything else that may be causing this leaking?

Anyone else had any problems like this or know how to solve this? This seems to be the only problem with it, other than a dodgy rear shock which i will replace myself this afternoon.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT

I should have mentioned that he also said it could have something to do with the gearbox, even though hes certain its engine oil, because its dripping along a bracket underneath the car, and the gearbox makes a squeal when you first start driving and whenever i reverse

Re: Oil leaking problem

if its the old OHV engine(899cc) it will most likely be the rocker cover gasket leaking due to a blocked breather pipe.

Re: Oil leaking problem

yeah i think thats what he said will most likely need replacing, because now we got the engine running right the seals may have burst because it wasn't used to the engine running that efficiently. Would this explain the leaking from next to the gearbox and explain why it drips out a shedload once the car is parked up and the engine has cooled off?

Anybody know how much it will cost for a replacement, no labour costs, just a sunny day will be needed!

Thanks

The rocker cover gasket for the FIRE engine is around the gadiver mark. I'd imagine the OHV unit will be similar.

30 minute job (maximum).

How much would that be then? hehe!
Sorry for the newbness, would either the FIRE or OHV rocker cover gasket fit or will only one do? Not much experience with Cinq's, this is my first of many.

Cheers

Re: Oil leaking problem

899cc is a bit more a bugger to get to. The cost of a new gasket will be about £4 from Fiat

Re: Oil leaking problem

Hi,
The OHV rocker gasket change is a bit of a pain, the rocker cover doubles up as the inlet manifold on these engines, got to remove the throttle body which also means draining the cooling system or finding end plugs to block the small pipe that goes from the thermostat to the throttle body.
If it is the rocker gasket that is leaking, you should have a burning oil smell under the bonnet when you stop the car after a drive, the oil leaks out of the rocker gasket and onto the exhaust manifold at the rear of the engine.

Thanks
Paul T

What a polava! Quiet a bit more involved then the FIRE engine then, methinks this may take a lil' longer then "30 mins max".

Would that happen to be the bit attached to the right hand side of the rocker gasket cover? Would it be advisable to get a Haynes Manual then just to double check I get it all right? Why can't it be as easy a job as changing the shock absorbers?

Cheers for the help guys
