Brakes on Abarth Seicento NEED HELP ASAP!

Hey guys,

Just fitting my Drilled and Grooved brakes and pads and have come across a serious problem, my car is a genuine Abarth Seicento and first of all when I took off my alloy's there seemed to be some kind of spacer which to be honest I have not noticed before... everything was taken off and everything was fitted on and suddenly the wheel fell of the car on closer inspection the actual nutts only go into the back plate by about 2 or 3 threads i.e. the nutts are not long enough to pass through the spacer and the disc into the backplate, I have no idea how it originally was holding on I guess "by a wing and a prayer" but I have now had to fit the wheels without the spacer's...

What I need to know is, is the spacer a genuine Fiat part that comes on all Abarth Seicento's if so BE WARNED check your botts as mine are far to short and will be ordering some bolts that are 35mm/25mm unlike the current which are 35mm/20mm...

I could of been dead and I swear this is not being over the top the wheel liturally fell off while I went for my lunch and thise was all fully tight and yes it was all fitted correctly as my dad who is an engineer has confirmed with me what has happened so please everyone with an Abarth Seicento be warned!

The Abarth Seis should have wheel nuts, not bolts. The spacer kit should comprise a spacer, locating ring for the wheel, and four double ended studs.

The studs have a nut part half way along them, one end is supposed to screw into the hub, the other is supposed to stick out for you to locate your wheel on.

Maybe someone has been fiddling with your car before you got it?

Re: Brakes on Abarth Seicento NEED HELP ASAP!

Its all sorted now thanks for the reply, the double ended bolt goes through the disc and into the backplaye and then the spacer goes over the the notch in the middle covering the center of the bols and then the wheel goes ontop I was making a class one error of putting the bolts over the spacer and the middle part of the double bolts was left open.... Just a small mix up hehe

thanks anyway

Thanks

Geniune Abarth as well not just bought after market, which is kind of nice I guess since I the Abarth logo on the seats and so on...

Also guys all brakes fitted and I cant really test them out for about 150 miles got to let them bed in abit but when i press the break i get a funny noise from the brakes, kind of like a timer noise, i.e. you know an egg timer that goes click click click click for every half seconds it sounds like that or the timer on some wing up toasters, I understand what this noise is, its the pads rubbing against the drilled holes and grooves but will this noise stop when they have worn in more or is this just one of those things to have drilled and grooved breaks

And even tho they are not conditoned and I am not wanting to use them hard yet but they already feel alot better than the standard discs and pads! Recommened to all!

Re: Brakes on Abarth Seicento NEED HELP ASAP!

I got the discs from http://www.national-auto.co.uk/ and the Lucas Performance pads total cost came to around £80 for 2 x discs and 4 x pads and these discs have been tested against brembo and have the same potencial for stoping performance, they just dont have the life span of the brembo, about 10% softer grade steel than brembos, but half the price!

They also have the all important TÜV APPROVED badge!!

The ticking or rattlesnake noise lessens as the discs wear down but I think it's cool.

The sound will grow on me a guess, I was either fitting performance brakes or do the Punto GT conversion as shown on this forum but I fancyed trying grooved and slotted!
