(T) I OPENED MY ECU (99 sei spi)

hey for all of you who are wondering if a sei spi has a removable chip YES it is its fully detachable but if your going to remove it be careful i have removed mine 2 see and i nearly snapped the prongs :S be careful lol! i thought i'd share my findings with u all hope it helps someone??

hmmm that is actually quite interesting as i am lookin at gettin my 97 R reg cinq chipped some time this week i hope... but i am sure i have been told that fiat started soldering the chips in after 1997!

anyone kno if this is true on the cinqs as i cant b assed to take my ecu apart unless i really need to!!!

Some are soldered other are plugged on a soldered carrier. It was just as the factory was set up.
If you have a soldered one take it out and solder a socket in.

oic so it is more a case of luck of the draw weather yours was made soldered or not!

soldering a socket in, now that is a good idea.... pity i have not done any soldering since i was about 11 in school!

suppose i could just get a different ECU and run that with a chip and get an external immoblisor!

it only takes 2 mins to open it up and have a look mase

there is a recent thread about post 97 ecu's and the ones that have been opened aren't soldered after all

Its a tricky job to take out the soldered chip. The board is plated so the best (only) way to remove the chip is to cut all the pins and remove each one separately. If you try to remove the whole chip at once you will not be able to keep the solder on all the legs liquid and you will quite likely damage the board trying to remove it.

The Sei ECU is a different model from the Cinq I suspect they went back to plug-in so that they could be more flexible with changing the map chip if there was any problems.
