Funny wheel nut

I'm not if anyone else has had this problem but I have a very strange wheel nut on the right front wheel. (I'm currently trying to check the brake pad because I have horrible grinding noise coming from it)

Any ideas about getting the damn thing off. It's sort of round and slightly bigger the spanner can take. As it is the wheel nuts are extremly tight to get off with the spanner.

Thanks everyone

I don't know. It's sort rounded off compared to the rest off them.

Re: Funny wheel nut

sounds like a locking wheel nut. You got a key for it?

Re: Funny wheel nut

as far as I know, I don't think so. Is it an actual key or what. What would I be looking for?

Re: Funny wheel nut

you should be looking for a small box, which will contain the 4 original nuts that have been replaced, a tool to pull of the silver capping and the locking nut key

search the car high and low, most of the tme the locking nuts will be in the boot with the spare wheel and all the other tools, but look everywhere that could be used to hide/store the box or locking nut key

the locking nut key is a socket that fits over the nut and allows it to be turned

Re: Funny wheel nut

Well I've just looked and I can't see anything. There appears to be locking nuts on every wheel except the rear left wheel. Can't see anything to get the caps off or to unlock them.

Re: Funny wheel nut

If you cannot find the locking nut removal tool you can go to a local tyre fitters and if they are kind they will remove for you but you will need to get more nuts or lockers but worst comes to worst halfrauds normally stock these on the shelf for approx £20-25 and you might have to give the tyre fitter a "drink"

where u from if close to myself (swindon) i can remove them for ya or just go to bristol/manchester or any other high crime rate place......and they can normally remove them "while u wait" at a set of traffic lights!!

If it's a locker and you've lost the key, then you can get a removal kit from Halfords. If the nut is recessed in the wheel though it might not work. Another option is to hammer on a normal socket and try and remove that. All I succeeded in going was breaking 2 sockets though.
The wheel wrenches you get with the car are always rubbish. Better to get a socket set and a nice big breaker bar
