Boot light

Does anybody know how to add a boot light in a Sei (SX)? All I need is a +ve and -ve, and then I can put a switch and everything there. Any ideas if there are any power cables leading to the boot area?

Re: Boot light

i have a set of blue cathode tubes to light my boot, they are wired via a push to break switch that the parcel shelf sits on.

Are you using a normal light, or plan to use cathodes? If you plan to use cathodes, you need to be careful as the voltage when the engine is running will kill them. They are designed for 12v, not 13.8v.

To deal with that, i bought a 12v regulated supply from maplin for around a tenner and wired it in behind my dash then ran wires through out the car (including to the boot) to run any cathodes i wanted to install.

So in answer to your question, no i don't know of any lines in the boot!

Nice idea, but I'll then need to leave my heated rear window on which will drain the battery very quickly!

I was thinking about a cold cathode, but getting 12V may be difficult, maybe I'll be able to find some 15V cold cathodes that will work?

no.. i doubt it.

Buy a regulator, and wire it in. Its very useful, i have cathodes in my foot wells, under the seats and in the boot - they all run off the regulated 12v line.

edit - could always tap the line to the tail lights?

Re: Boot light

What about those push on lights from the catalogues?

Or is that too easy, practical and un-modding like?

They're only useful if you want a regulated 12V source, which I don't lol. I think a normal bulb maybe better, or something simple like a resistor, or LED's. Tail lights aren't great though, because you've got to have the ignition on (unless you put parking lights on), and leave the lights on lol.

Re: Boot light

well if you're being cheap about it, buy the voltage regualtor chip and wire it up urself. They can be had for around a quid - i just couldnt be arsed wiring one up, so bought the box.

12v regualted supply is useful for things like TFT screens, walkie talkie charging, etc. I do use mine a bit

Re: Boot light

I've got an idea now

I think I'm probably just gonna get some batteries, and wire up some ultra bright LEDs. The batteries should last ages with LEDs and I can probably put it in my spare wheel. I'll have a little micro switch for when the boot opens too.

Re: Boot light

that'd work.. i don't see why you won't just run a power line down the car tho

ah well!

the switch you'll need is this one: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...rldID=&doy=8m4

I drilled a small hole in the support for the shelf and put the switch in there.
