Punto 75 Throttle Body

Ok having seen the post a little while ago (See link below)

http://www.fiatforum.com/showthread....highlight=38mm

I've decided to bite the bullet as it were and purchase myself a Punto 75 Throttle body.

Now as many people on here will tell you it isn't a direct swop for my Cinq.

For a start the Punto 75 is a MPI engine, so the top part of the throttle body doesn't have the injector or anything on it, so the top part of either a Cinq, Sei or Punto 55/60 throttle body is required.

Lucky thanks to a very good mate (Thanks Brickfoot ) I managed to get hold of an old Cinq 1108 TB. (See "Top Half of 1108 TB.jpg" below

I got my Punto 75 throttle body from Ebay and it was delivery to me on Saturday, I took some picture as soon as it arrived and these are shown below.

Thanks to Pete Gas Flowing guide (Thanks Mate ) I'm in the process of flowing top half of the 1108 TB, the bottom half of the Punto 75 TB. The shaft is also going to get a good flowing (uh ur misses), as well as the butterfly. I'm going to get my dad's friend to turn down the alloy spacer block so it isn't quite as tall, as well as flow the spare inlet manifold I have and bore out the inlet hole so that it matches the Punto 75 Alloy spacer block.

I know its going to be quite a bit work to get all of this done, but I think it will definatley be worth it, and I should definitley gain a couple of extra bhp ready for York

I'll keep this thread updated with the progress of my work.

Wish me luck, I hope I can get it all sorted.

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

Well as I do each part of the conversion,
I'll promise I'll take pictures and keep the forum updated with my progress.
It will be like a guide, but will only be updated as and when I get parts finished.

I'll be working on it tomorrow, and Friday, but I'm working nights on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but I'm hoping I can get my dad's friend to do the laith work on Monday or Tuesday night.

I'll keep you posted.

Brian

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

The throttle Body inself wasn't advertised for sale on ebay.

I'd been looking for one of these throttle bodies for quite sometime now, and I saw a fella advertising he has breaking a Punto 75 ELX, so I messaged him asking if I could buy the throttle Body from him.

He replied saying he'd be happy to sell me the throttle body, so thats how I got it.

The fella I bought it from is called "Dave", but he appears to have removed the Punto he was breaking from Ebay.

His email address is david@davidhelliwell.wanadoo.co.uk

If anyone wants to conntact him about any other Punto 75 ELX part they may want.

Hope that answers your questions.

Brian

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

Hi Brian

The work on getting the 75 TB to fit on the upperhouse is difficult and not optimal enougt...

Do this in stead... It works and it fit perfect

Look at this thread: http://www.fiatforum.com/showthread....5&page=1&pp=15

The pic. bellow is af original Cinq. TB modified to 40mm matching the inlet manifold

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

I must admit "Tricker..." your throttle bodies do look good, but I can't really justify spending that much.

Plus I'm gas flowing my Punto 75 throttle body so the difference in flow rate between that and the 40mm throttle body won't that that great.

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

I can't see anyone talking Brian into doing a 32mm TB, we have talked about this for ages now and he has his mind set on it. I can't wait to see the difference it makes.

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

Well I've heard good reports on the 32mm Punto 60 throttle Body, But I really wanted that little bit extra, So I decided on the Punto 75 38mm throttle body.

I know its going to take quite a bit of work, but I think it will be worth it. Plus what I am doing will be unique and no-one else will have a throttle body the same, as I am getting my dad's friend to modify the TB and the alloy spacer block, plus the inlet hole on the inlet manifold, so it should be really good.

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

Ok here's today's update.

Having fully stripped the Punto 75 throttle body I've cleaned every single part in the parts washer, so their all nice and shiney

The first three pictures show the main parts of the throttle body, (the top part of the throttle body won't be used, but I thought I'd include it anyway).

I've gas flowed the shaft of the throttle body and I must admit although it took me the best part of 3 hours , I'm REALLY pleased with the end result.

I started shaping the shaft with a small file to get the rough profile I wanted, then I used a sponge sanding block to get rid of any of the scratch's the file had left.
After the sponge sanding block I used some 300 grade wet and dry, and then moved onto some 600 grade and finally 1200 grade. After I had done that I got out the Dremel and used one of the polishing pads with some rubbing compound to finish off the shaft and give it a supper smooth finish.

I then moved onto the butterfly. Putting the shaft back into the throttle body and re-inserting the butterfly I could see exactly which parts of the butterfly made the seal. I then marked the reverse sides of the butterfly that didn't make the seal so that I knew exactly which parts of the butterfly I could smooth.

Although the pictures are great (Ok there pretty bad I know), you can just about see the smooth edge of the butterfly. If you don't really know what I mean, the edge profile of the butterfly was very similar to that of a 2p piece.
But it now is smoothed into a thin knife edge to help aid in the flow then the throttle is open

Let me know what you think, and I'll keep you updated with further progress reports.

Brian

Re: Punto 75 Throttle Body

Well the maching has been done,

Me and my dad popped over to one of his friends last night and spent a good couple of hours maching the throttle body and the spacer.

I know just need to give them a little rub over with some wet and dry, get my spare Inlet manifold all cleaned up, and then paint it as well as the throttle body and then I can start to re-assemble it.

I've not got any photo's of the machinging yet, but as soon as I do I'll get them posted up for everyone.
