Geabox problems

Just about to start a 110 miles journey today, with my cinq fully laden with my stuff, when the gearbox decides to start playing up.

heres the problem. Driving down the road, get stuck at some lights. I try to pull away but it wont go into 1st. Finally get the thing in gear, change to second and then try for third, but nothing. cant even move it right. So no 3rd, 4th, 5th or reverse gears.

The RAC are on there way, 2 hours they tell me. In the meantime has anyone got any ideas if this is a simple or major problem.

Re: Geabox problems

Should be very simple, a inkage ball cup will have fell off, hopefully. The linkage could be damaged or the gearbox itself, but most likely a connector.

Good luck

Re: Geabox problems

My cinq is all sorted......hopefully. The problem was with some cables. My local garage said it would cost around 200 quid to get new cables and clips fitted, instead they reattached the old ones and screwed or welded them back into place.

Runs like a dream at the moment, so fingers crossed.

Re: Geabox problems

Welding those buggers sounds a bit hairy!

On the Sporting, they pop on at the G/B end (well, they need some encourgement with a small hammer!)
On the 899cc, one pop's on, the other one is secured by a circlip.

I dont think welding should be necessary, unless the gear lever end assembly broke, In which case, the usualy procedure would be to replace it!!!

Re: Geabox problems

I think he mentioned something about the gearbox end. It only cost me 50 quid and i trust these guys there sound.

As long as the beast continues to run, I'm happy.

To justify what ive done, I only paid £340 for the car so spending over 200 quid on getting it fixed defeats the purpose of buying a cheap run around.
