An underheating cinq?

Hi, read the sticky on overheating cinqs, but mine stays rock bottom at about 50 degrees when i am driving around, and in heavy traffic it goes up to about 90 degrees. should it be this low? 50 degrees when cruising on the motorway? Am confused as my uno ran at about 90-95 degrees all the time, and that had a FIRE engine too.

Re: An underheating cinq?

mine does the same, hardly ever goes to 90 degrees, while D4NS cinq seems to always be at about 90 degrees

Re: An underheating cinq?

Two points.

1) Its only a guage, and a fairly cheap one at that.

2) Don't be confused, on the motorway the airflow through the radiator will keep the engine cool even though its being driven hard.

Remedy:- Thermostat could be jammed open, time to replace.

Cheers

Re: An underheating cinq?

Charlie overheated horrendously when I first got him.

New rad and stat now in and he sits quite happily at about 75 degrees on
the motorway. Sat in traffic it creeps up to just over 90. Fan usually kicks
in and keeps it stable though.

I wouldn't worry too much, although as suggested above the stat might
need to be checked

Re: An underheating cinq?

Try re-bleeding the system mate, can you get heat from the heater?

Re: An underheating cinq?

Thanks people, have checked out my radiator, looks brand new, all the fins on and not rusty. Plenty of coolant and you can get heat from the heater after a few minutes. after a while fan cuts in and out every minute or so when its idling.

Think i will leave it alone, maybe like you say the gauge is crap. Just a little worried as on previous fiats i have owned the temperture guage has to be watched more closely than the speedo sometimes!
