New cinq owner and got a slight prob

I stole my cinq of the other half and gave him my nissan 200sx( rwd in the recent weather hasnt been that much fun)

Anyway, problem I have is technically quite serious I guess.

Its my handbrake... Basically its pants... had it up on the ramps yesterday and it has had recent new cable ( which I checked adjustment and tried changing it to see if it helped )
It has also had new brake cylinders and shoes.. but the little lever that applys the handbrake doesnt seem to be doing anything untill the handbrake handle is so far up its almost being pulled off.

I live near some very steep hills..and while my clutch control is good I need my handbrake issue sorting..

The car has only done 57k miles but could it be the drums..??

Any ideas.. cheers...

Re: New cinq owner and got a slight prob

the hand brakes are crap, same with the clutch cables, they tend to go very easily

i have had 2 hand brake cables on so far an i have only had the car over 12 months

i had the whole handbrake changed the second time, it holds on 2 now

welcome to the forum too

Re: New cinq owner and got a slight prob

Well, well, well this brings back a few memories. My Cinq used to be really bad, I leaned on it once and it started to roll off. Nearly tripped on my ass

I have put new brake shoes on and played about with the handbrake cable, adjusting it with the nut, now all is fine. To be honest just pissed around with it. Its alot better now though.

It now holds on 1 click where as before it was 4. But the 4th was extremely hard, even for the most muscly like me, lol, no seriously the handbrake was nearly touching the roof.

Noooooo, why have you swapped the 200sx, they are beasts. You can have some right fun with em. Jap is the way forward!!!!

Make sure that, when you strip your brakes down, you take out the handbrake actuator (the little lever thingy) and give it a good clean with brake cleaner and lube it up with copper grease. This made a huge difference to my crappy handbrake although I can't really figure out why!

Sounds like mine. I can put it on but it is on 4 clicks and very hard and even then doesnt hold on the big hills around here.

I can have some right fun in it.. but the reason really being that I am getting my rally car soon and the sx as fun as it is, isnt very cheap to run. As its running 16psi I know it will need things like new turbo and bottom end doing sometime in the not so distant future. Have fast car will show off and the clutch begins to take a battering.

So You see it comes down to cost... I loved my little metros previously for being small, nippy cars but to many are rust buckets now and I sold my 1.8 one because it wasnt pratical. So I went for a chiq.. so I can run my rally car too.

Its the little lever thing that doesnt seem to be doing alot.. I did wonder if the new handbrake cable was the right one as it is just hardly moving it.. as in the cable moves but it takes a lot of movement for it to pull the lever.

Aye, the pivots on them rust up too easy and make the handbrake rather ornamental.

Re: New cinq owner and got a slight prob

Think my other half has sussed something... Will let you know as he has had some pivots slightly redesigned and aslong as they work properly should be good.
