(T) Engine check and Airbag lights come on

Hi yall,
My mate's got a 1.2 punto mk2 and the engine and airbag lights have just come on. the car is a little more sluggish than it was before.

Does anyome know if the two lights are linked? i was thinking maybe the lamba sensor's seen better days but I thought you lot would know more.

I have posted this in the punto section over an hour ago but no ones got back to me about it, I know you lot are far more knowlageable then them anyway so I thought I'd post it hare aswell

did both things happen at the same time. Wonder if its water ingress, or an earth issue. TBH the best thing would be take it somewhere and get the diagnostic codes read, instead of blindly replacing bits until it works.

my mate had a problem with his punto that's similar to what you described. What helped in his case was removing the ECU connectors, spraying them with what we call "contact spray" and re-plugging them. It's the simplest solution, so try that before going to the diagnostics.

Also, does sound like it could be a bad earth somewhere.

they did both happen at the same time, I've told him to get it checked out and he's managed to get it booked in somewhere for tommorrow. is there anyway you can read the codes yourself? I used to have a micra, if you bridged 2 pins on the data cable the engine check light would flash the code up, 5 long flashes then 5 quick ones for example (giving the code 55) ment that everything was fine.

a mk2 punto will be OBDII compliant, you can buy a code reader for them. I'm not aware of any of error code lights you can make flash - they all just rely on OBD nowadays.
