If you're going to the hassle of taking the arms off, replace them. In fact, save yoru money on the front and just buy new arms when needed.
well the knockings from the back so I'll do them and see what happens, if the handling's still wooly I'll have a bash at the front too I think. I suppose it may make sence to change the arms while I'm at it.

Re: Are these worth 101 quid?

There is a small amount of education needed.

'Gas' dampers do not just contain gas.

All types of dampers have oil being forced through valves as the method of damping.

In a normal damper the space above the oil is filled by air.

In a gas damper this space is filled by an inert gas.

There is no difference until things get really hot. At that point in an air filled damper the air will mix with the oil and the oil will not damp as effectively as before.

The inert gas in a gas damper will not mix with the oil so the damping remains more constant over a greater heat cycle.

Usually damper manufacturers change the valving on a gas damper as they expect it to be used for more 'sporting' applications than a standard damper.

I hope your gas dampers have a concertina rubber over the damper rod, and its that that is making the 'pith' sound

Regards

David
