Re: 1368cc bottom end specs

What im thinking of doing is to have a 1368 8v turbo just to see how well it is but still adding up cost effectiveness for the extra 126cc
easyly done but cost of engine and new machined crank gear work out near £350 which would be better towards forged low comps or management
at a rough! guess in theory id get better bottom end torque less turbo lag quicker spool up
cant see any real problems myself

Re: 1368cc bottom end specs

I'd be inclined to go the way FIAT have -- turbo a 1.4 16v.

But is there any evidence at all that your existing bottom end isn't up to it? If not, what's the point?

Going for a bigger engine might result in less lag, but so would building a decent manifold (or using a ball bearing and/or dual entry turbo).

im wanting to get the 1368 anyways but fiat are having problems making it reliable past 160bhp?? And the 1242cc 8v block can handle up to 140bhp?

Re: 1368cc bottom end specs

What makes you think Fiat are having problems getting past 160bhp reliable when they offer the SS kit for the GP Abarth which takes it to 180bhp & comes with full Fiat warranty

Any car manufacturer will have put any modifications through full durability testing, something aftermarket tuners can't do because its too costly. This is why manufacturer upgrades are always dearer, they are better built and have undertaken much more intensive research and development programs.

In taking the GP Abarth from 155 to 180bhp they change the turbo, air filter & the fuel injectors amongst other things, though I've no doubt some aftermarket tuner will crack the ECU ramp up the boost on standard turbo/injectors and claim they can get SS power for less cash, yeah it will but at determent of durability and reliability. And the inlet charge will get very hot when using boost for extended periods as the small turbo works harder to produce same power, so power drops off.

There are details of what are dutch friend used out here, somewhere. Both the Jap spec Legacy and the JS MR2 Turbo used dual entry water cooled tubs -- I know the Legacy used 2 (so they will be small) and, AFAIK (for sure with the Subaru) both are water cooled.

GT25 should be just about useable with 1.4 litres.

Re: 1368cc bottom end specs

To paraphrase my engine builders evaluation of the 1.2 8v SuperFIRE bottom end - "come back to us if you think you're going to exceed about 200lbft or 250bhp & we can discuss things from there" .

Also there's not much reason to go for a big turbo unless you want to go for big power as a hybrid GT15/20 is capable of supplying enough air for over 200bhp.

Re: 1368cc bottom end specs

Seems about right: can't remember anyone having bottom end issues with the pre-super FIRE engines, either.

Re: 1368cc bottom end specs

Oh yeah and for the record my self and TurboCinqy1250 are running outputs in the region of 160bhp. My engine builders reckon that the water pressure needs to be upped to make sure there aren't hot points in the engine flash boiling the water.

Had a look at my digidash logs and it seems near or at WOT I'm hitting peek boost (18psi at the throttle body, certainly a lot less at the other end of the inlet manifold) at around about 3100rpm with a GT15/20.

Re: 1368cc bottom end specs

So my T2 hybrid with a T28 compressor wheel should be up to it its got 360thrust bearing
thanks anyways.
With everything in mind now and know whats possible with other bits i will get the 1242 running so now the body work can wait lol
so plan is get the sei to a reliable 120lb ft torque or however much to get it to 140mph whilst hoping to do that, find a broom yellow cinqu for the next engine which ever way that goes
