Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

right right the wheel locator bolt ?

You don't need them, is not a must you have them!

And you got wheel stud anyway, putting the wheel on shouldn't be any problem ..

Really put everything back on and leave it !

Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

The Schui had a wonderful spacer arrangement, very different from the standard car. At least, it had.

If it hasn't got those, but has a set up similar to the standard car, then taking something to the little bolt and spire bolt that locate (while the wheel is off) the disc is fine.

I'd still be inclined to drill out those and retap and replace, though.

Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

IS no much point having wheel locator botls, when u have studs tho ...........

Those is there to hold the disc in against the hib, but when you tighten the wheel, it will do that anyway..

Hmm i think is nice to have, but is not really needed...

That's the point. On the Schui (as original) the spacers mount to the hubs, the wheels to the spacers. There's no direct connection between hub and wheel! Similar kind of idea to the PCD adaptors you can get.

Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

Yes I have the exact arrangement that fingers99 is talking about. Studs need to be removed to allow brake discs to come off. Trying to remove them and 2 of the studs have damaged the threads in the hub flange.
I was hoping to remove the flange without the taking the upright off but it doesn't sound like that is possible is this correct?
Still got the other side to do yet. Can see this being an expensive brake change!!!

Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

id just grind the heads off and leave the rest there as 'locating pins' for the brake disk.

Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

These are the studs that hold the 10mm spacer and the wheel on not the little short bolts that hold the brake disc.

Yeah. Lots of penetrating oil (well worth using plus gas rather than WD40) will help. If the threads still get buggered and wont clean up well enough with a tap to take the factory torque readings, a helicoil kit will be cheaper than new hubs. (Useful thing to have -- all the threads that seem to get buggered on Cinqs are 12mm x 1.25 -- plugs, ARB, hubs..............)

Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

Right,
got the hub off but how the hell does the abs sensor come out. I have removed the small bolt holding it in anything else required to remove?
Helicoil sound the way forward me thinks.

Y'know, never done it on a Schui. But, if you can get a drill to the stud holes, no real need for further dissasembly (and -- of course -- dissasembly has it's own risks!).

Re: Schumacher Hub Removal Urgent Help Please!!

In Cov you should be able to find lots of engineers merchants in Yellow Pages -- they'll have them as will the better motor factors. Most of the kits come with the appropriate drill (but check) and enough inserts to do the job (measure the thickness of the hub -- you don't want inserts whiich are too long). You'll need -- ideally -- a tap wrench to hold the tap, but can usually fudge it.

Sure, the pillar drill is a better solution, but needs must!
