| Turning over but not firing? I bought myself a lil fiat cinquecento 899CC a few months ago and until now has really been running well. However, over the last few weeks the little car has become desicively dodgy when starting. The car seems to turnover well, however doesnt seem 2 fire, causing the car not 2 start. I have changed the spark plugs, and several differenty ideas, however now a light to the side of the battery on the dashboard is showing up, althought i dont have the handbook. Does anyone reckon that it could be a problem with the fuel injection system, as when it fires, she runs really well? Reply a.s.a.p. thanx! jclayton

| if your car won't start and the starter motor doesn't turn 1. Open the bonnet and make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. 2. Switch on the headlights and try to start the engine. If the headlights go very dim when your trying to start, the battery is probably flat.Get out of trouble by jumping the car using a mates car. Run for an hour with out turning of, by this i mean drive the car for an hour. If your car won't start even though the starter motor turns as normal 1. Is there fuel in the tank? 2. Is there moisture on any of the electircal components under the bonnet? Switch off the ignition, then wipe out any obvious moisture with a dry cloth. Spray a water reppellent agent on the engine and infected area. WD-40 is perfect. Spray on the ignition and fuel system. Pay special attention to the ignition coil wiring connectors and HT leads check the battery check these

| Unfortunately, even though the starter motor does turn its not moisture or the battery that is the problem. Anything else that it could be??? I think it must be something more complicated than this as the light comes on the dash. jclayton

| Might be the crank sensor, if it isn't picking up the signal it won't know when to spark. If the fuel injection warning light is on, there will be a fault code stored in the ecu - might pay to have someone read the codes for you as it should pinpoint the problem straight away. Pete. | I got a blokey to come round my house, plugged his Snap-On diagnostic computer in and read the codes in a matter of a minute or two. Cost me £25. Pete. Links: 1242cc cinq, turbo cinq, Cinqs&Seis forum, Clubcento

| It is a black 1995 (N reg) Fiat Cinquecento, 899CC. Its got a brand new set of spark plugs, and a new set of wheels. The warning light next to the battery comes on when the ignition is switched on, however the car hasnt been starting first time for a little while. The car runs really well when she starts, however when the car doesnt start, you cant hear the petrol pump flowing the petrol through. However when the car starts you can start the car. Anyone think that it is a dodgy fuel pump? JC jclayton

| you say it is is going through the petrol pump. Has the guide to the buttons i have issued any help. It should help you identify the icon. As mine is an sx also i will go and have a look at mine. I have had a look at my manual and seen that in either the 704 cm engines and the 899 cm engines that the battery that you seem to be identifying is the fog lights which can not be right. I am not entirelly sure it can be the fuel pump. Also the oil sign comes on when the engine won't start so maybe you should start there. I suggest that you empty the sump and refill it. Try that and see what happens. That can take 15 mins and it can take no time to fill up so give it a go and see.

| er, no - don't bother changing the oil unless it's overdue! If the engine management warning light is on (little nozzle with a squirt out the end) for more than a few seconds when you start up it'd suggest a fault. When you first turn on the ignition without starting it, the pump should run for a couple of seconds then stop. If this isn't happening then you may have hit the nail on the head - could be an electrical problem (Pump relay, connections, pump itself or wiring fault) Pete. | do you think a change of the battery and oil is in order. Will that be of any assistance. Or should he jsut go straight into working on the startin systems and the ignition systems.

| Cento Boy | it's not the oil. an oil change won't change anything. If it's not starting first time but then starts and runs fine, it isn't the battery Sie Black 96P Cinq Sporting OMP Strut Brace, Apex -40mm kit, GSR F1i Induction, Pioneer ICE ![]() Union Jackass

| Moderator | kurupt39, chill out. You've been offering dodgy advice on both this thread and this thread; http://www.fiatforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14906 You clearly have no idea what you are talking about so I suggest that you stop pretending you do. If someone comes on here, follows your advice and it damages their car they won't be very happy now. Will they? Sorry if this sounds harsh but I reckon it needs to be said. Steve...
