| taffy git | smooth boot have searched and it has come up with a few answers about how to smooth a cinq boot, but nothing much came up about the locking mechanism when i push the central locking key fob it also locks the boot, must turn something inside as you cannot see the barrel turn, is this fiat central locking or something that has been put on when alarm was fitted so when i take the handle and lock off what will happen, will it lock the boot forever or not lock at all im thinking that when you remove the lock you just leave it like it is, it cant be popped from outside, only the inside with the thing in drivers footwell, but for some reason it is confusing the hell out of me ![]() help!!

| i am | Re: smooth boot you can leave it in the locked position. basically when you look inside the boot you can see where the boot solenoid actuates the boot lock. if you remove all the gubbins then there wont be anyway to unlock it so you will just use the internal release. does that make sense?simple thing seems really complicated when i write it lol. | ||

| i am | Re: smooth boot well yuo have 2 options on the standard set up.turn the key one way and it stays locked regardless of the CL action.the other way unlocks the boot with the central locking. but since you will be exclusivly using the remote lever then its irrelivant.all you need to ensure it the remote lever mechanism is in place. or to be smoo you could change it for an electrical boot release and fit an alarm with accessory buttons so you can remote pop the boot | ||

| taffy git | Re: smooth boot have decided to do this later on today a trip to halfords is on the cards, what will i need to get my shopping list so far - P40 fibreglass , P38 bodyfiller , low grit and high grit wet and dry (which ones ) , filler primer and normal primer. Anything that I have missed out oni plan to remove the lock, dremel or file away the sticky out bit left behind by the lock, give surrounding area a bit of a sand and key, fibreglass a piece of mesh behind the hole, whack on loads fibreglass and filler, sand away until it smooth, filler prime it and admire all the imperfections , then be home in time for teadoes that sound about right, if it does it easier to write it

| mad bad and very very old | Re: smooth boot Its easy to do, but to do right needs lots of patience getting it completely smooth. Use a block to put your paper on and dig an old tin off contrasting spray paint from the back of the shed. Use this as a guide coat. Once you have done some sanding, lightly spray this guide coat on, then resand, you wil then see the different high and low sports that need attending to. Cheers D

| It's not Pete's,it's Mine | Re: smooth boot I think when I got mine done he weld a plate of metal over the hole, as he said the filler sometimes can crack, I might be wrong though

| ...done | Re: smooth boot thats how mine has been done... metal welded behind the holes so the filler doesnt fall through. and the smooth boot i have in the office is sheet fibreglass bonded to the back of the holes as well! gaz mate, wat u have to remember on the cinq is that the lock will leave a little lump on the boot door, u will have to cut the hole bigger to make it flush.

| taffy git | Re: smooth boot i was planning of cutting that out, or filing it down, it could just be easier to do what you say and cut the hole bigger you should weld a metal plate behind the hole, but as im doing it myself and cant weld then meshing it is the next best thing , i could f/g on a piece of metal though ![]() i have seen a guide on how to smooth a boot and it dont look that hard, was going to attempt this last weekend but brakes got the better of me ![]() it says after you have filled in the hole with f/g you rough it up and cut into the surrounding bodywork to give the filler something to stick to otherwise it will pop like a plug, does this sound about right?
