twin headlamp conversion

The story so far....

The last time I posted pics of this car I had just fitted a 1242cc engine and found that it had been seized, so morale severely dented I did nothing for ages but recently found another 1242, fitted it and so far so good.

I bought the Sportex back box off ebay, the badboy bonnet took a bit of work to get right and has been on my other cinq until now. The wheels are off a Punto but need lower profile tyres.

Next its the lowering kit and a respray (bright orange, black wheels/trim), then Tricker 40mm TB.

The headlights came from a Mondeo bodykit - they took a while to get right too and I messed up a set of headlights from a BMW 520 trying to get them to fit....

I need to build enclosures to protect the lights next - clear perspex methinks.

Anyone else try this?

Re: twin headlamp conversion

awesome man.... would well like some twin lights, was thinkin that the afterburner ones from a nova might work as they are about the same sort of size.

i am guessin u have the side light bulb in one, then the main bulb in the other?

That's some Cinq your building there.

I can see the potential.

Got any better pics?

How much did you pay for the Beemer lights?

Liam

The 'outside' ones are normal dip/beam headlamps and the 'inside' ones are high beam-only spotlights. They should be *much* better than the normal (awful) cinq ones. I still haven't figured where the indicator is going, but I am making led rear lights and I have made led side repeaters, so I just need a suitable housing for the front to take the led's. The pics aren't great - the car is being painted next week so I'll put up better pics when its finished.

Twenty Euro from a guy who had the car dumped at the back of his house. They were a bargain but I couldn't get the adjuster plate back far enough to allow the bonnet to close and ended up cutting everything up to make them fit and then didn't have enough adjustment to be able to align them properly - doh!

Nasty!

Got their in the end though.

Could the front indicator be another side repeater?

Very likely - the smaller the better. I am experimenting with bending perspex around the lamps and mounting orange leds in it to make it light up like 'angel-eyes'. I'll probably just end up ripping them off something in a scrappys...

Re: twin headlamp conversion

Hi
I`ve seen a similar conversion on a german cinque site (not sure of the address)and he made some fibreglass surrounds looked just like a morette conversion, sweeet!!!
How about putting your indicators in the slots in your bumper(the ones where your ornamental gasket should be) i know it may stop some airflow to the rad but you could feed air in elsewhere.
Cheers
Adrian

Thanks Adrian - not a bad idea. The pics are cr4p but you can see I've started cutting the bumper and am trying to find suitable mesh so there is still time to fit the indicators in the slots. I have a pair of the ornamental gaskets ready to fit once its meshed - who knows? Watch this space!!!

I found this guy ( http://www.cinqueworld.de/ ) who fitted twin xenon lamps but he got very fancy with his welding - mine was a bit Blue Peter. His pics are nearly as bad as mine.....

Re: twin headlamp conversion

Rallycinq has a set just like those, some driving lamps from tweeks, some plate and a hacksaw!

No probs!

Its a '95 Sporting I bought for €200 - the underneath was dirty and rusty so I'm going to paint it with 2k black and put Wayoxl everywhere once its sprayed.

The last time I posted pics of this car, several people said it looked crashed. I have a boot spoiler from a Pug 405 for the roof, a set of MkI Punto side skirts and limo tint film for the windows.

Anyone reading in the West of Ireland looking for a '97 black Sporting with 54k miles - my other car is for sale - pics on request.

Re: twin headlamp conversion

should be smart when finnished and a well protected underneath will be good as thats something fiat obviously didnt think too carefully about.

Re: twin headlamp conversion

Thats well tasty!! Did you have to uprate your alternator/battery to run the new lamps/spots? I've bought two sets of LED indicators to fit into the slot vents and the car is being sprayed bright orange tomorrow. Making the lamp surrounds out of fibreglass and painting black at the weekend. Pics soon.....
