Cinq Gear Nob

I own a cinq sporting on a p plate. I want to get the remove the gear nob but can't. I've been told its a simple case of brute force as they are glued on. Is this the case or is there a knack to it.

We off the leather cover, then chopped the rubber part off with a stanley knife.. be careful when doin so not to damage any mechanism.. or fingers..!

Then you want to buy an OMP adapter.. its a metal sleeve that makes it possible to fit OMP gear knobs - i know someone who didnt buy the adapter who bodged the job and couldnt get reverse afterwards!! the adapters about 10 quid, have a look on the OMP website and it will be on there. Theres full instructions with it, as you will need to cut some of the stick off from what i remember..!

Hope that helps.. cant remember OMPs address, but im sure if you put it into google it will come up!

Oh.. by the way.. the reason you need the adapter sleeve is because once you have removed the rubber gear knob, youll see that it isnt made the same way most cars are - it doesnt have a screw top so you cant just screw on a new one..theres a funny shaped plastic bit which you wont fit a new knob over.. the sleeve allows you to cut off the top that is there and gives you a screw top to fit a new one on to.

My mate bodged his and had to fix himself up a whole new reverse mechanism.. he said it was good in some respects because no-one would be able to nick his car - theyd never find reverese - but for the sake of a tenner ya mite as well do it properly

Assuming you've got the Sporting, you ideally need an adaptor, otherwise you may end up with a choice of either having 5th gear or reverse. Problem is that the gear knob and lever slide up and down over the central metal shaft.

Best bet is to ask Demon Tweeks or someone like them.
