(S) Carbon Kevlar Hybrid Bonnet

Hi Just Finished My Bonnet And Thought I Would Be Brave And Ask What You Thought Of It
its carbon and kevlar just needs a good polish up hopfuly the hole car will be ready for october its in the paint shop now

It's OK. But what about the "spider" -- the underneath bit. How does it fasten?

Why did you do it in carbon/kevlar instead of carbon?

will get some pics of the underside it took 8 weeks from start to finish 6 of them was on the under side as i did not want bonnet pins there is riv nuts so the bonnet can take the orig bonnet hinges

i wanted kevlar as the car is yellow and i like to be differant

every other car has a carbon bonnet

but not mine

Nice thinking! Of course, the big disadvantage of car/kev is that it's such a bugger to trim. I'm glad you avoided the pins and/or steel spider route: respect!

I'll eventually start work on a carbon bonnet for Blue with titanium inserts (if I have any left) for the hinges. But I'll paint it!

If your molds are good enough you could certainly sell a few. Me and Brooky were thinking that there's more weight to be saved in the hatch, but it is a more involved job.

i the catch was a pain in the arse to get in the right place
it is alot lighter will get the scale out and compare the weights later on the day
the triming of the kevlar was not to bad having said that blunted loads of knifes files etc
but its just what you have to do
would be tempted to make some but the time invoved in making one dont think anyone would want to pay for it

I fancy a carbon bonnet tho, should go well with the paint it'll be getting

How many layers of carbon / kevlar did you use?

1 layer on the top with 4 layers of resin rubbed down then 3 layers of lacquar
3 layers underneath for strenth in the spider
5 layers round the catch and bonnet hinges

i might make full door cards in kevlar next
and some kick plates for the sills

It does look sweet. I just wish I could do one, or that more people would start doing these sort of mods for the seicento too. you cinque drivers get all the good stuff.
