Re: rattle can spray job

would look crap IMO over time original paint showing through and can jobs always look crap

Panel by panel? Imagine the amount cans used, not only of black but of primer etc.

Cant understand why people would scimp on spending on a job like this?

Save up for a proper spray job

Re: rattle can spray job

One of the partsmen at the dealership did that with his rat nova. looked quite good, although he did take his time and prep the car first.

Cheers

Re: rattle can spray job

a poor spray job isnt what a 'rat style' car is about. rats are about rust etc

Whatever rocks your boat, but i think its going to look a disaster and no one will ever buy it if you ever sold it i hope i eat my words though

Re: rattle can spray job

Years ago, my mates mum worked for Holts which had a warehouse locally, she got me 12 large cans of british racing green, and a few cans of lacquer.

Luckily, I had a Mini just gagging for some paint

Now, spraying a car with cans isnt something I would have normally done, and the key to a good finish is in the prep

The body was flatted back, imperfections and any rust spots dealt with

I did each panel at a time, it was just easier

When the first coat was dry, I flatted it with a fine wetndry paper, then I gave it a second coat, flatted, then a third coat, I was sweating blood after all that.

Dont use the can too close, make each stroke as even as you can

For me, it turned out very well. I took the car in to a garage to have some welding done to the sill a couple of months later [it was a mini!] and the fella said "what a nice paint job"

I had the car for a year after that, and then a mate of mine had it another year, the paint didnt fade, held up very well, and in fact looked better and better each time it was polished, we found that a few weeks later after painting, when the paint was fully hard, that T Cut brought a great shine to it.

It is do-able, but if anything, its a good learning process, preperation is everything
remember your local hire shop will hire you a car spraying kit, and get the paint from a local car paint place, it will produce a better result

Good luck!
