Rust

Yeah, it's a problem that is haunting me at the moment. I have some dodgy rust spots on the wheel arches. How do I get rid of them? I was thinking if I sand it all back and whack some hammerite on? But what about re-painting?

Thanks in advance,

Sie

It does happen, I have spent the last two weeks removing underseal from mine and there are lots of rusty bits under the underseal.

To improve your car, sand or wire brush the corrosion until you get to shiny, but lumpy metal. Keep going till you get to the shiny stuff. Skim of filler, then sand smooth, prime and paint. Don't be tempted to leave either filler or primer on the car without a top coat. They are both porous. If you have to do the job in stages be prepared for a flat back each time.

Cheers

after the "grounding" incident at Stanford, I'm gonna have to rustproof where the underseal has been ripped off. Same apply as the above on the wheel arches? The metal is shiny so will a quick layer of hammerite do? What products are good and more importantly, value for money?

Thanks again,

Sie

well, I should really rustproof where Ive had to remodel for the grp N centre pipe, but seen as that may only be on the road for a day or so before going off again, i'll sort it then!

Well, currently she has no oil (it was full of crap and stunk of petrol due to an accident with a fuel line and an absence of the rocker cover!!), im just leaving the RTV to set prior to refilling it. It still needs retiming, then its being blasted!

From my own (expensive) experience, do a mile or two first then go home and check it all over. If all seems well, them go a little further.

Pete.
