hi,

im looking for a really nice wax to use on my sisters car, it seems after normal wax (£5 bottle) it still doesnt look that good, so what waxes do you recommend? i want one of them ones that give the really deep and glossy shine, you know the type, they just make the car look new

my max price is £20 for a 500ml bottle or one of the tub's.

Harly Wax is the best in this category, i've tried everything, but man made waxs just can't come close to carnuba wax, and this place does it for £18 delivered. http://www.knightsbrooke.co.uk/harly-wax.htm

yes aaron, wax will always beat polish. alot of it is because you need to spend hours waxing the car properly. it can lead to patching and takes a hell of a lot of elbow grease to get an even polish. i much prefer the "on and off" approach. still get a great finish in a fraction of the time.

Re: what wax? (will pay upto £20)

There are so many to choose from.

You could try Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine which is a single stage polish protectant (avoid getting it on black unpainted plastics) or go for a 2 step polish and protect like Autoglym Supr Resin Polish (SRP) and Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection (EGP).

You could try the Megs 3 step process with Deep Crystal stages 1, 2 & 3. Personally I'd forget stage 3 and use something better as you final stage. Megs do NXT Tech Wax which is suppose to be pretty good.

P21s is pretty good but doesn't last that long, it more a fair weather boutique wax.

You could also try buying some clay to lift surface contaminents prior to polishing. The clay needs to be warm and soft and you need to be careful to lubricate well to avoid scratching the paintwork. Most commonly available clay is Megs can be found at most Halfords.

I'd almost agree with Dave that it is almost all in the buffing and preparation but is worth avoiding the really cheap stuff for the sake of a few more quid. I personally like the Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine stuff leaves a brilliant shine but can be tricky to use!

True,

I always use a clay bar to remove contaminants on my paintwork, there are many around, like they do one http://www.knightsbrooke.co.uk/elasticlay.htm Meguiars also do there quick detail kit http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/Produ...ProductID=9057 this company also do the P21S that someone mentioned, never used it but sounds similar to Harly Wax http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/Produ...ProductID=9100

This stuff is hot in the USofA http://www.motherswax.co.uk/index.asp
& this lot also do clay bars, carnauba wax etc http://www.dtconcours.co.uk/index.htm

The daddy of all wax kits but way beyond the £20 budget http://www.parcferme.co.uk/products/

There is another company I have used but can't remember there name, very good products, go to Festival of Speed and stuff with a cool van/exhibition stand to show off products.
