Bought a Meguiars towel as a replacement for a well used chamois leather after reading up on the pros and cons on all the car cleaning nerd forums.

I must be missing something, not a patch on my old knackered chamois in terms of absorption and to actually get the paint dry and mark free takes forever. Seems asomto leave less ornament shine on the paint.

May sound Iike a daft question but, should it be used differently? Not sure progress is always a good thing!

Cheers

Ben

You haven't washed it in fabric conditioner? Wilkinson's sell a large microfibre drying cloth for £2 which works well for drying and removing waxes etc.

Never use fabric conditioner on towels ;)

Just re read what I wrote, should read leaves less of a shine. Will give it a shot again tomorrow before it gets consigned to the mistake cleaning product box.

Really quite surprised by how it seems, really don't get the whole anti chamois thing

Cheers

I have had a vileda fake shami for years and it's amazing, IMG_4174.JPG

Chamois are very good at trapping microscopic grit and dragging them around the paint, microfibre towels allow the grit to get into the towel rather than stay on the surface, preventing it from getting dragged around. It's not about how well it dries, it's about protecting your paint.

I have both type's and the waffle ones soak up the water better after a few washers. The big fluffy ones will also "pull" out the dirt missed on washing. I have tried sooooooo many different types, if I see a new style it has to purchased!

The best I.M.O. at least..

Since reading this thread I'm a total convert, micro fibre cloth all the way, I am amazed how well they dry the car with another advantage being the chance in surface, for example the plastic flush panel at the top of the GP bonnet, the gap between after drying with a chamois would never dry the water from the recess but the micro fibre cloths do.
