Hi all,

I have a Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 Active Sport (not the 16v version) with 48,888 miles on it. I am currently getting 42.6mpg out of it. It has been recently serviced and MOTd and had new timing belt.

I have read that using premium fuels like the Shell v-power will improve mpg at a rate high enough to warrant the higher cost of the fuel.

Do you think this fuel will be worth using in my car? If not, can you recommend other ways for improving the mpg of the car?

Thanks

I have researched fuel for several years mainly diesel due to injector failure at low mileage (60000 to 70000 miles) across all makes of HDI vehicles.
There are two types of diesel type one and type two, the two types are mixed together during the winter months to stop the fuel slugging in cold weather and clogging the fuel filters. This lowers fuel consumption and performance.
O K you now think I have a petrol vehicle, well modern petrol engines have fuel injectors also that operate in a similar way to diesel injectors both types are self lubricating. The number one problem with diesel and petrol is the bio now added to the fuel which does not atomize or burn efficiently causing carbon to build up mainly on injector nozzles. Premium Fuel plus additives are a must to keep your fuel system & DPF clean to increase performance and M.P.G.

your MPG is pretty reasonable, (y)
driving style pays a big part..,;)
tyre pressures are also one of the biggest factors,

I've not bothered with "better fuel" as It's not on my commute..,no saving If I drive further to buy it..,
I work with some high mileage drivers, they DO get more MPG - but the actual cost per mile is basically the same - as the other fuel is so much more expensive..,
