Just taken delivery of new Fiat 500 and wanted to treat it early (before gets dirty etc. ) to try and protect paintwork (including reducing chance of stone-chips etc. ). I am aware of the washing advice (double bucket, fleece, microfibre cloths) but specifically wanted advice on what products to use for a simple treatment. As the Autoglym products are readily available was looking at initial treatment with (i) AG Resin Polish and then (ii) AG Extra Gloss Protection.

Queries:
  1. As car is brand new do I need the AG Resin polish?
  2. Will the AG HD Wax provide significantly better protection at significant cost compared to the Extra Gloss (protection is primary interest rather than shine)
  3. Is there a better simple product to use to provide protection on a new car?
  4. Do I need to remove anything Fiat may have applied before these treatments?
Thanks for any advice.

Others on here are more knowledgable than me but for now.....

1. Not unless the dealer has buggered the job up and scratched the car in cleaning it before they hand it over to you. (Which is not impossible of course.)

2. No I don't think so.

3. Not that I am aware of.

4. The car will have travelled a long way on a train getting generally grubby and being liberally covered in brake dust. This can cause spots which look like rust (more visible on light colours). The dealer's prep probably will not remove these as they can be pretty stubborn. The very best way to remove them is a product called Iron X. It is pretty nasty stuff thought I understand (and smells bad). An alternative (or additional step) would be to "clay" the car to get rid of anything sticking to the paint (but this may not get rid of the iron particles that Iron X would). One good one is Bilt Hammer auto clay as it does not require a special lube (other than water).

You can search for threads mentioning these products on here or on http://www.detailingworld.co.uk.

Final thought: no product will make any difference to stone chips. The "protection" you are giving the car is to the durability and condition of the paint generally and its resistance against grime.

yes as it will clean and "prime" the paint ready for the LSP (wax or EGP)

What colour is the car?

I really like these :

(replaces SRP)

then this

(replaces wax / sealant)

And if you have any money left their detailing spray is good and shampoo very good apparently (ive not used their shampoo)
