Newbie shopping list (little advice please)

Hello guys,

9 more weeks till my little 500 gets here, so i thought i'd use the money i'm not paying on the finance yet to get some stuff together for my car.

I've never had a car that i was proud of before, more of having cars out of nessisity and just bunging them through a car wash every now and again. But this one i actually picked everything out, took hours on the creator online... i want to take care of it!

So i read the sticky at the top and went to cleanyourcar.co.uk and made a basket up of the things i think i will need. Just really need someone to look through it and tell me if i missed anything or if any other products are better than others etc.

one more thing, It says to mask off any black trim to avoid stains when waxing. Now with the 500 lounge im guessing it's all chrome coated plastic, is that the same hat or can i get wax on those?

I Literally have nothing in my house to clean cars with apart from buckets

So in my basket i have:

1x Valet Pro - Bilberry Wheel Cleaner (1 litre
1x Handi-Hold Bottle (947ml)
1x Chemical Resistant Sprayer
1x Dodo Juice - Born to be mild shampoo 250ml
1x Meguiars Lambswool Wash Mitt
1x Sonus Ultimate Detailing Towels Pkg/2
1x Dodo Juice - Time to Dry - 250ml
1x Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay Sampler
2x Foam Wax Applicator
1x Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance
And the Autoglym super resin polish from some other website.

Many thanks for reading,

Dave

Re: Newbie shopping list (little advice please)

id swap those sonus detailing towels for a large drying towel, and just get a pack of 5-10 cheap ones from the supermarket for about £3.50.

also, you dont need a chemical resistant spray head with Bilberry ive found if you want to save a few pennies and get an average one!

does that clay sampler come with a lubricant? If not, you will definately need to invest in some!

You will be fine with getting wax on the plastic chrome, its just the textured plastic that seems to get stained!

Awesome, thanks a lot man. Yeah it comes with a lubricant, I got the sampler for that reason (just to get me started).

The large towels were out of stock when I looked but I suppose I've got enough time to order them when they come back in I'll get some small ones when I pop to sainsburys tomorrow.

Re: Newbie shopping list (little advice please)

yeah sainsburys sell Kent car care ones that come rolled up, think its about £3.50 for 5 and they are a decent size and mine have survived quite a few washes!

what colour is your car by the way? If its a lighter colour id go for Collinite 476s rather than 915, although the difference is negligible

My car's yellow, I was just looking at the Dodo Juice waxes for warm colours. Are they any good or is it best to stick with Collinite? And if the Dodo IS any good... do i want hard or soft?

Sorry for all the idiodic questions

Alot of people swear by DoDo waxes, but im not a fan of them to be honest. Supernatural is pretty good though.

I'd stick with Collinite over them to be honest, either 476 or 915.

Re: Newbie shopping list (little advice please)

in Poundstretcher the other day I picked up a little wheel cleaner brush which is more effective than the pricier one I bought in a car accessory shop, also a pack of 4 microfibre towels which I use for the door shuts, cheap enough to use a few times and throw.
I quite like the smaller SOlus drying towels, anything too large I end up dragging it along the ground but drying towels are brilliant.

Re: Newbie shopping list (little advice please)

I hope I'm not stating the obvoius, but something I've found to make a big difference is using two buckets when cleaning.

One with warm, clean, soapy water and one with just water for you to rinse your mit in after applying the shampoo.

The wash mits are good at reducing the amount of grit you drag across the surface, but this just helps that little bit more.

Also, Auto Glym offer a good spray-on, wipe off leather treatment which is good for regular use, but you'll want a good protective product for application once a year or so.

he said in the opening post that he had read the cleaning guide (sticky) and that discusses the 2 bucket method

Just another quick one from me! In the sticky I've seen mention of Lidl's own brand rain X for the windscreen. I've had a pop down to our local one and they had next to no car stuff in. I was just wondering what a good substitute would be?

Thanks again.
