After a bit of advise if anyone can help?

Has anybody ever used a heatgun to try and restore tired looking black bumpers/trims?

Im told this is the best, most long lasting way to do it, but i have never used a heat gun before and can imagaine my bumper ending up stuck to the tarmac:D

If anybody has and could give me any tips it would be much appreciated.

Try some groundnut oil. £1 from tescos. wash the car, rub the oil into the bumpers or trim, leave for 10 minutes then wash off. (y)

Apparently peanut butter is really good as well, but too nice to waste IMO :D

Meguires I have found to be best.;)

They do a spray which I put onto a soft cloth and then in sections apply to bumper & trims.

Would like a CC bumper but finding the correct colour/year in a scrappy is a bit tricky:rolleyes:

I am temped to try that trim gel above...........erm

i have just put a thread up use baby oil mines been on a week now no problems and do your tyiers the same time im chufed with mine

I never really got any dressing up to last. Ive tried several over the years, from linseed oil to expensive bumper blackeners with dye in them. They all wear out fast. I just paint mine now. A good wash, then a degreaser, plastic primer, and then paint. I mostly use satin black, as it looks most like the plastics when it was new (y)

Whatever you do DON'T use Back to Black!
I did on a Corsa, it looked great..... for a week or so then it rained/ weathered and looked worse than when I started, it then became essential to use that product every damn week! Great for product sales, not for your car!

Different Manufacturers plastics vary greatly and products do too, age also is a factor. Some absorb the product and need reapplying ,others protect/seal it. Wynns bumper and trim spray aerosol works well on old Fiat`s such as classic Panda, Simple solutions do a gel called Swipe, Autoglym do a gel ,but their tyre shine spray works very well on old 80`s/90`s Fords.

I use Poorboy's Trim Treatment and apply it with a cheap microfibre cloth. This helps pull out the dirt from the plastic and helps the product to soak into the plastic. If you do it before you wash and wax the car this will also help it last longer too..
