Car Detailed 6 Weeks ago and How Easy it is to Clean NOW!

This is my son's car and he used a clay bar on it 5 weeks before this picture was taken - he now only washes it using 3 bucket method with wool wash mitts and hand dried with waffle weave cloth and it comes up a treat and only takes 10 to 15 mins each time now.

Dirty and ready to be washed.

Hose rinsed then foamed, ready to be rinsed again before wash mitts

Hand dried and looks a lot better!

Suppose you could call it a good Scottish clean then! In all honesty his younger brother and a friend washed and dried it by the time he got chenged into kilt for going to a wedding.

1 week later and waiting to be cleaned again.

Now washed and noticeably brighter

Just to prove the 3 bucket method! I have been asked why 3 buckets instead of 2 and when you see the colour of the water in the first rinse bucket you see the need for the second one before then putting mit in shampoo bucket again.

Now that is a deep clear shine!

Just to finish off................ what a difference the clay bar makes to future washes.

So was it actually detailed or did he just clay the car?

Looks shiny anyway!

i hope thats a staged shot and he's not rubbing the paint work with it....

Pat dry is the way to use it...

as for 3 buckets..... Grit guard is the way to go....

what did you foam it with a Gilmour??

did he do anything else other than clay it??

Re: Car Detailed 6 Weeks ago and How Easy it is to Clean NOW!

Hi & Thanks for the replies.

The picture of the polish cloth is staged, simply to give a contrast between that and car paintwork.

Here is the drawn out process from condition car was in to final shine on day of detailing:

Car bought new start of September 2007 and looked not bad but a few minor swirls to paintwork, Saturday 3rd of May car sitting with about 10,500 miles and not been properly handwashed since new, so all hands on deck for this, which some may think is OTT but I think is worth it:

Hose Rinse
Foamed using garden hose with Gilmours Foam GunII and Meguiars Hyper Wash
Hose Rinse
Foamed again as above
Washed with 3 bucket method using Meguiars Shampoo Plus, woollen wash mitt to top 2/3 of car and synthetic to bottom and wheels
Pat dry with P/Boy's waffle weave cloths
Hose Rinse
Meguiars Detailing Spray and clay bar to whole car including glass and wheels
Wash and dry again as above
Tape off plastic/rubber trim using 3M tape (3434 I think it was)
Polish using Meguiars Dual Action Polisher and combination of P/Boy's SSR1 & 2 polish
wash and dry again as above
Literally hand apply Blackfire Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax
(my younger son has this off to a fine art) buffed using Maguiars D/Action then finished by hand with polishing cloth
Alloy wheels wiped clean and NXT Polish applied (may be a bit harsh for some but ok on these and gives a good finish to seal wheels)
Outside of tyres cleaned and finished using Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gel

I hope this is classed as a full 'detail' as it seemed like it!

You wont get a similar finish because it was machine polished and not just clayed. It will make the paint finish alot better but no way near the same levels as this

oh and mines cleaner http://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punt...et-detail.html

Re: Car Detailed 6 Weeks ago and How Easy it is to Clean NOW!

Depending on the strength of the clay used, clay will actually dull the finish a little. Clay bars are actually abrasive, and if you dont intend to polish the car afterwards, i would use a very mild clay. Sonus do one, and there are also others available. To get a finish like the one above, a full machine polish is essential, especially on darker cars. Heres a 50/50 shot of a black bonnet which i taped off prior to polishing. The car had been clayed before this picture was taken. On darker cars, a full machine polish makes all the difference.

Before

After
