Inside Car Cleaning HELP PLEASE ASAP

Hi people,
My back seats of my punto seem very stained, can any one recommend any good inside seat cleaning products that I can use?

Thanks

Autoglym's Fabric Stain Remover is excellent on interior trim. It's quite a strong solution and just needs to be sprayed on and agitated with a damp decorators sponge then left to dry. You'll have to cover the whole seats otherwise you'll get clean spots.

The standard Interior Cleaner is good but not as effective as the Fabric Stain Remover.

Agreed I've used some Autoglym interior cleaner and was impressed with the results. Having said that I'd go to the local supermarket, pickup a £1 bottle of whatever upholstery they have instead. Designed to do exactly the same thing and if it's good enough for a sofa/carpet then it's good enough for a car.

I tend to use a fairly soft bristle brush to agitate the dirt out, wipe down with a sponge, once dry give a good vacuum and admire the results.

Re: Inside Car Cleaning HELP PLEASE ASAP

One tip is to ensure that whenever you dampen upholstery to ensure that you make sure that it is evenly wet. If not you can end up with unsightly water- marks.
If you're not happy with the results you achieve, you could have a look at www.britishvaleters.org they have about 300 valeters on hand to answer any questions.
If you decide it would be easier to have someone else do it for you, there's a list of valeters to chose from.

Does water hardness play a factor? Hard water will have a high content of calcium which can desposit out.

Do you have access to a steamer with an attachment. Have used this on my previous car

Re: Inside Car Cleaning HELP PLEASE ASAP

I'm sure it does thepottleflump, we are lucky to be in an area of soft water, so it's not an issue I've ever had to deal with.

The alternative would be to use de-ionised or even filtered water, you could always just boil and cool a few kettle fulls!

Cheers,
Caron

Re: Inside Car Cleaning HELP PLEASE ASAP

forget all the crap about hard/soft water, if staining is bad as said before steaming machine only way forward then a nice household carpet cleaner or the likes, nothing special about so called car interior stuff just the price simple & cheaper

Re: Inside Car Cleaning HELP PLEASE ASAP

The only thing about steaming in my humble opinion, or indeed excess water, is that in many modern cars, particularly ones with heated seats and numerous other electronic gizmos, you cannot be certain that they are all insulated enough to withstand lots of water and heat.

the safest methods if you are unsure about drenching the entire or steaming thing would be
- foam cans, these can be found in the cleaning isle of any DIY store or supermarket, simply foam on, allow to fizz and rub like crazy with a micro fibre
- spray your cleaning solution onto a cloth and rub into the fabric, keep turning the cloth to ensure you don't rub the dirt back in! Then finish by rubbing over again with a clean cloth

It's also worth mentioning as this thread has moved on, that when wetting enough to dampen more than the upholstery covering, ie allowing the moisture to penetrate into the wadding of the seat, you can actually create more dirt, especially if you have a wet/ dry vaccuum at home which you use to take out the excess moisture. You can end up with a worse state than you started with as you bring more dirt up to the surface.

Simple advice, test for colour fastness in an inconspicuous place regardless of what product you are using, wet as little as possible, ensure your cloth is clean at all times!

Re: Inside Car Cleaning HELP PLEASE ASAP

I support this response Jim, used the steam option in the car and around the home. Easy to use, no drenching etc
