Care Of Metallic Paint

I am about to get a new (to me) silver Panda.
Which wax would be best to protect it from Seagull ...and other bird...damage ? Are metallic paints treated differently ? I know I should avoid causing any paint damage with my driving !

autoglym super resin polish is good for repelling bird poo, and it lasts a few months so it isnt hard work keeping your paint protected.

Re: Care Of Metallic Paint

give the car a good coat with SRPolish as jug said but it isn't a sealant in the strictest form thats why autoglym do the Extra Gloss Protection to put over the SRP...

However if it was me i'd

wash the car really well.

Clay the car this removes any enbeded grime in the paint i'd recommend this

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...products_id=91

this is how to do it

but rather than a special spray the Billit hamber stuff just needs plenty of water.. and its a very fine clay so you wont do any damage if your careful

once clayed wash the car again (use a car shampoo and not washing up liquid,

then polish the car with Super Resin Polish

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...roducts_id=119

then put 2 coats of this with 24 hours between applications (give it a light wash before the second coat..)

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...roducts_id=112

and forget about it for about 12 months

if you suffer badly with bird mess nothing will protect the paint 100%

these could be the answer but they are expensive

also for general car cleaning have a read of this when you have a spare ten mins........

Have a look at this forum...
http://www.britishvaleters.org/forum

They have a few hundred pro valeters as members. If you ask them the question, I'm sure one of them will know what's best for your car!

Re: Care Of Metallic Paint

I would always reccomend a lambswool mitt for washing the car. Best investment I've ever made in a cars paintwork. Totally prevents swirls and scratches.

I agree. I also keep a separate mitt exclusively for the lower half, which tends to get dirtier, so even less risk of swirls and scratches. Having said that, despite all my best efforts there are some minor swirls on the upper parts of the rear doors, above the windows. I suspect they must have been inflicted before I picked the car up, but I am trusting that perserverence with the Super Resin Polish will remove those.
