| Re: Thanks and in need of advice It isnt water that does the damage under the bonnet, its steam! this is what gets into the electrics and causes all of the problems. make sure the engine is cold so that the water doesnt turn to steam. When cleaning an engine bay, make sure all of the caps are on properly i.e oil, water, brake fluid etc, then take a look around the engine bay, if there is anything that you think may cause you problems if it gets wet, i.e aftermarket alarms, ecu's etc, bag them up or wrap them with cling film. Once this is done, it is safe to use a presure washer. Treat the engine, inner wings and everything really with a high quality traffic film remover, I use Autoglym. Scrub the subborn bits with a paint bush, but be sure to tape up the metal part of the brush so that it doesnt scratch anything. Very oily parts will need a degreaser. Then wash it all off with a presure washer, taking care not to point it directly at the bagged up bits. Remove the cling film, bags etc and clean these parts by hand, Then whilst its all still wet, give it a liberal coating of Autoglym's Vinyl and rubber care from a spray bottle. Shut the bonnet and clean the rest of the car, by the time you're finished, take another look at your engine, you will be amazed!!!

| Here to help | Re: Thanks and in need of advice Spot on. WD40 or similar products are the best. WD40 is a cleaner, will also protect. buy a tin and spray the whole bay, bulk head chassis legs, plastic covers air hoses and anything electrical. then wipe off with a clean rag. I usually spray sparingly all electric looms plug leads etc and leave. as it prevents moisture.
