Brake dust / tar residue

Does anyone elses alloys on a GPS suffer from really bad brake dust / tar residue after a thorough cleaning?

I've been scrubing away at them with a toothbrush but it still wont shift the sodding small spots of tar - not happy!

Get some Auto Glym "Tar and Bug Remover" and use it on the tar spots.

Depends on the weather and roads. When it gets hot the tar starts to get tacky and you get little spots of it on your wheels and body from it flicking up in the air.

Re: Brake dust / tar residue

And so many people laugh at me......But this is why I clean my wheels once a week rain or shine.....including the inside bit......I put some cardboard down and lye underneath it to clean the inside of the back wheels !! but then of course I'm "Mad" - Coat them with wax every 3 months too - helps a lot.
But they do look great.....like new after 14 months.

Re: Brake dust / tar residue

Mine just wipe clean. I never cleaned my car for about 4,000miles. Doing only country roads and motorway....just wiped clean. Think you should go and get it re-done

the dealer wont have superguarded your wheels or unless you have done it yourself.supergaurd is only applicable to the paint work and the interior.
even supergaurding the wheels isn't any different to polishing them.it wont make any difference.your wheels don't stay cleaner than anyone else's wheels

That just about did the trick.

I think I'll have to invest in some Bilberry wheel cleaner though before applying two coats of wheel sealant (either Chemical Guys or Poorboys).

Re: Brake dust / tar residue

Superguard is not a con, A tad expensive as a dealer option yes. Its best on the exterior paint work, my 05 Punto Sporting's paint still looks brand new with no swearl marks and very few stone chips for a car coming up to 50k. And I don't need to polish as its pointless .
