Loosening Dirt, Degreaser, Film Remover? What to use?

Ok so looking to give the cars a good clean and due to all the crap on the road at the moment they're inevitably coated in layers of crap, so what can i use to loose the film etc before i set the pressure washer on it to give it the once over before the hand wash.

Home remedy's are acceptable, cheap but good is fine too, dont want to spend huge wads of cash on a bit of time saving when diluted fairy liquid in a spray bottle would do the trick.

Ive been using Muck off mountain bike cleaner diluted with water 20% muckoff 80% water in a spray bottle on the lower half of the car...

you can also get it in halfords, and motorbike shops also sell it..

if you have a karcher pressure washer then get a foam lance - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washin.../prod_371.html

this will cover your car in foam, leave it to run off for approx 10mins then rinse, and it will lift most of the crap. You can get a cheaper version from halfrauds for about £15 but from all reports the attachment to fit it to the pressure washer doesnt last long

You can just use a normal shampoo product with the foam lance. I use turtle wax patio cleaner cost £5 for 5l and comes up good via the foam gun.
