Shock Absorbers , Monroe or MEYLE ?

Hello ,

I didn't know what sub-forum would be correct for this , so please excuse me if I am wrong .

I currently own a Fiat Palio 1242 Fire 16V 83hp , its the 3rd generation Palio , based on a 95' Punto but a bit smaller and diffrent ,.

Anyways I have it for a year now , and the front shock absorbers didn't last .. thanks to our off-road streets

anyways I am about to replace them now and I've found out that there are 2marks that would fit into it ..

German MEYLE Shock absorbers , they cost arround $131 ( US dollars ) for the pair .

yet there's the MONROEs , which cost almost the same , $140 , I dont know where they are made .

So which one would last longer ? better ? and does anyone know anyother ones that might fit into my baby ?

Thanks alot mates .

my car :

Re: Shock Absorbers , Monroe or MEYLE ?

what country are you in?

eygpt looking at the plates

but yeah, your roads are pretty bad in cities and that. monroe's are very popular, think they *used* to be made in birmingham in the uK, but after the 1980's it got too expensive to make them here so they are now made in eastern europe or somesuch place.
I've got monroe's on the front of my punto (mk1, so prob the same underneath as your palio) and they haven't lasted very well, both rubber protection boots have come off, their both rusty, and one has a slight leak. and thats on 'good' UK roads and after only 1year

I would go for the others.

they seem expensive too.

$131 fitted?? cost me £50/$90 for the pair of monroe's in the UK and fitted them myself.

when i was out in a few eastern countries I found everyone drove a lot slower than we do in the UK. and took more care of their cars on the bad roads than I thought possible. literally creaping and crawling thru all the puddles/holes

Re: Shock Absorbers , Monroe or MEYLE ?

lol thanks ,

Yeah I live in Cairo , Egypt .

I couldn't find a Suitable MONROES for my Palio , they were designed for the older Palio ( G2 ) . anyways I got the MEYLE , they are the ones that were in the car already , made in germany , 1 year waranty , hope these last !!!

Drive slow ?? man even 0.8 Suzuki marutis drive fast here !! everyone is on a hurry , not because we like to reach places on time or anything , only because we are always late ... give anyone any date .. and he will always expect you 30-60 minutes later

Thats the ways of the east ... its so funny to go at 130 km/h in a high way .. and find a Daewoo Matiiz SPEEDING between cars ... jumping in the Air like a baloon thanks to the roads ( Highway roads are the best here u should see the in-city ones :P ) .

Our roads are so bad , that almost all Car dealers increase the ride hight to an extent , u can almost feel any car is a 4x4 :P .

back to the point , They are good for speeds and stability issues ( The Meyles ) but not comfortable at all .. so stiff !!

$130 , $20 Rubber Crap , $5 Installation .

Again thanks for your reply .
